A museum in Lower Manhattan dedicated to Jewish history and tradition had a Confederate flag tied to its entrance on Friday morning, according to museum officials. The NYPD’s detective division is investigating the incident, with the state now offering assistance as well.

1. There should be cameras on the streets and exterior of buildings,

so these things are under constant detection. It would also deter a lot. It is not an invasion of privacy as they are considered common areas. Cell phone cameras have been the best tool for capturing crime in action these days, but only when someone's there to catch it. It would make people feel safer, too, knowing the place was being recorded and can be monitored.
