GOP support for Trump reelection bid drops 13 points: poll

Source: The Hill

BY DOMINICK MASTRANGELO - 01/13/21 08:45 AM EST

Republican support for a potential second White House run by President Trump has dipped by double digits after his supporters rioted at the U.S. Capitol last week, according to a new poll.

The Morning Consult/Politico survey published Wednesday found 42 percent of Republicans say they would support Trump if he ran in 2024, a decrease of 13 percentage points from November.

Trump’s job approval among Republican voters, which came in at 75 percent, is the lowest it has been in Morning Consult/Politico polling since August.

Support for a potential presidential run by Vice President Mike Pence, meanwhile, has trended slightly upward, standing at 16 percent.

For a public office he would not being qualified to run for due to an impeachment conviction. It sure would be something.

roughly the same number of Republicans that said they supported the attack on the Capitol right after that happened.

So there’s your Republican Party going forward. Pretty much split right down the middle between people who coddled dangerous lunatics and are now backing away from them, and dangerous lunatics who are going to threaten the people backing away.

Sucks to be them...

This is not new. The question now is what becomes of the GOP from here. They could consolidate the anti-Trump voters and run someone semi-sane, but risk hardcore Trumpists staying home. Or they could try to rebrand the crazy and find someone more competent who can appeal to the Trumpists. Right now, I have no doubt Biden will win a second term so they have at least 8 years to figure out how and whether the party can survive. It's important to watch this closely as it should impact Dem strategy.

14. Reports of "percents" and "points" is meaningless without the hard number of registered Republicans

in the United States.

I cannot find anywhere the hard numbers of the total registered Democrats and Republicans in the United States. Just 2020 state registrations in general.

Without the accompanying raw totals of party registration, these percents and polls are imaginary maps.

The only totals I got by state were registration totals I had to add up myself for 2020. But Americans should have the party raw totals to get accurate maps, not alleged maps.
