Dollar General will pay its workers to get a Covid-19 vaccine

Source: CNN

New York (CNN Business)Dollar General wants its employees to get Covid-19 vaccines, so it's offering to pay them to do it.

The chain said Wednesday that it will give its workers a one-time payment equivalent to four hours of pay after receiving a completed vaccination.

"We do not want our employees to have to choose between receiving a vaccine or coming to work," Dollar General (DG) said in a press release, noting that its hourly workers face hurdles to getting vaccinated, such as travel time, gas mileage or childcare needs.

The company, which had 157,000 employees as of Oct. 30, called getting a vaccine a "personal decision" and said it wouldn't require it.

Should also give them a bonus for protecting customers by getting vaccinated.

It was $10 when they opened around 6 years ago.
My wife knows a lady that works there part time.
$12 an hour & the discount makes it worth it.
She started once her kids were in HS. Husband is a UPS driver, so that twelve bucks, 15-20 hours a week is decent extra money.
Not so much if that's one's only source of income.

Because it means people are getting something they should anyways . But they are able to do it as part of their job so there are no issues with trying to take time off of work.

Unfortunately, those are much more available than COVID-19 vaccines.

60% of workers in assisted living rest homes are refusing.
I get dialysis and nearly all the nurses and techs are turning it down.
I think I know why.

If you're willing to risk being a spreader to your patients, you're unfit to care for them.

21 States already do.

State laws boost flu vaccination rates in health care workers

https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/03/160302121329.htm

State laws mandating influenza immunization for people who work in health care increase their vaccination rates, according to new research. From 2000 to 2005, only Maine and New Hampshire had flu vaccine requirement laws for health care workers. During that period, the average flu vaccination rate for health care workers was 22.5 percent. From 2006 to 2011--when 19 other states, including Pennsylvania, passed similar laws--the average vaccination rate for health care workers increased to 50.9 percent.

on doing that while the vaccines are still under emergency use authorizations rather than full approval. I do know of hospitals paying employees as much as $500 to get the shot though.

These are younger people who aren't likely to die.

They think there's a certain amount of risk in accepting the vaccine due to it being rushed through Trump's FDA, but the worst case of not getting it is a few days of loss of taste and smell. There will be some sickness, but nothing that would land them in the hospital, and it's true that nearly all cases in otherwise healthy people go that way.

Of course they may infect someone like me, but why should they take a risk for a sickly old man who probably won't live long anyway? The nurse today was taking down names at dialysis and she advised me on the down low not to do it. With kidney failure, lung cancer, and COPD to worry about, I think I'll get it. There would be no saving me, but I'm just being selfish.

On edit:
I noticed many of those who turn it down are Trumpers. I know some dems in the health field who got it right away. "You know who" didn't get one, so why should his flock?

I live in a heavily democratic place and even here I see selfishness concerning this virus a lot. So I can imagine how much worse things are in other areas which aren't as liberal.

I personally am not afraid of getting the virus although I don't want to since I know there are chances of long term issues . But it's mostly because of concern over giving it to other people that I am very careful . And so far at least it seems like I avoided getting the common cold because of everything i'm doing.

The lack of concern, empathy for others is a real problem .
