Olympian Keller charged with taking part in US Capitol riot
Source: Associated Press
Five-time Olympic swimming medalist Klete Keller was charged Wednesday with participating in a deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol after video emerged that appeared to show him among those storming the building last week.
An FBI complaint, citing screenshots from the video, asked that a warrant be issued charging Keller with knowingly entering a restricted building to impede an official government function, disorderly conduct, and obstructing law officers during the frightening ordeal.
It wasnt clear if he had been taken into custody.
Thousands of supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol during a joint session of Congress on Jan. 6 while lawmakers met to formalize the victory of President-elect Joe Biden.
The 38-year-old Keller competed in the 2000, 2004 and 2008 Summer Olympics. He captured two golds and a silver as a member of the 800-meter freestyle relay, as well as a pair of individual bronzes in the 400 free.

(21,774 posts). . .to strip an athlete of a medal; and the only reason they'll do that is if the athlete cheated, ie. test positive for performer-enhancing drugs.
Other than that, there is no legal basis whatsoever to take Keller's medals away from him.

(2,689 posts)I mean, this poor slob may get a little leniency in his sentencing for being a broken, shattered human being, but he is still a felon and will do some serious time behind bars.
Lots of people down on their luck and deprived of income and past glory do not try to overthrow the government, after all.

(32,423 posts)After his swimming career, Keller worked a series of jobs in sales.[14] In February 2013 he began working at the Memphis, Tennessee office of Cantor Fitzgerald as a debt trader.[15] He would, in 2018, reflect on his career in sales and debt trading in an interview that, "Swimmer had been my identity for most of my life, and then I quickly transitioned to other roles and never gave myself time to get comfortable with them. I really struggled with things. I didn't enjoy my work, and that unhappiness and lack of identity started creeping into my marriage."[14] In an interview years later for a podcast by the Olympic Channel, Keller commented on his performance as an employee at this time, saying that he had set high expectations for himself, but had been "entitled" in the workplace, as well as a bad employee.[16]
In 2018,Keller revealed that in January 2014,after going through both a divorce and becoming unemployed,he had become homeless and was living out of his car for roughly ten months.[5][14][16][17] He also said that, for four years, he lacked visitation rights with his children.[5] In an interview he conducted in the spring of 2014, he stated that he was no longer certain of the whereabouts of three of his Olympic medals.[18] In the same 2014 interview, Keller also said that he had failed to find similar successes in his endeavors after retiring from swimming. He said that he made the mistake of not having the foresight to plan for his post-swimming career, and felt somewhat "bitter" both towards himself and his sport.[18] In 2018, Keller credited his sister Kalyn with having assisted him with what he saw as a personal comeback from his low-point of homelessness, saying that she had taken him in.[5] He said that during what he regarded as his personal comeback, he made a living by teaching swimming lessons and operating swim clinics.[5]
Since 2018, Keller has resided in Colorado Springs.[17][19] Here, Keller began a career in Colorado Springs as a real estate broker, being employed as an independent contractor with the real estate firm Hoff & Leigh.[5][20][21]

I liked Boulder much better...

Between the two books, I much prefer "The Shining," however I was disappointed in the movie.
