Yang to officially launch NYC mayoral campaign Thursday

NEW YORK With a promise to institute a cash giveaway program to half-a-million New Yorkers, former presidential candidate Andrew Yang will announce his bid to become the citys next mayor Thursday morning.
Yang will unveil his candidacy in Morningside Heights, where the Schenectady native first lived when he moved to New York City in 1996. He will then hopscotch the city, via public transportation, to meet with elected officials in voter-rich neighborhoods. He is planning lunch with Queens Borough President Donovan Richards and do a walking tour with Assemblymember Latrice Walker, who represents Brownsville, Brooklyn.
During his rollout, Yang intends to announce a local version of his Universal Basic Income proposal, his team said.
The plan would be far from universal in a city of nearly 8.5 million people.

The "let's take back our subway" line is a lazy promise many politicians make while never intending to carry through with it. The City owns the subway and can reclaim it at any time...provided they're willing to cough up the billions of dollars a year to run it.

MSNBC analyst Maya Riley is considering leaving the network to run for New York City mayor. If she is successful, she will be the first Black woman to lead the Big Apple.
Wiley has served as a top counsel for NYCs current mayor, Bill de Blasio and was a chairwoman on the NYPD oversight agency. She is also a senior VP for social justice at The New School and the Henry Cohen Professor at the Milano School of International Affairs, Management and Urban Policy.
In an interview with MSNBCs chief analyst Ari Melber, she stated, I have been so overwhelmed by just the amount of support and kind words and outpouring Ive gotten as a result of these news reports. All I can say to you is, I am certainly exploring it because Ive been extremely privileged to be asked by folks to think about it. She adds that her biggest issue in NYC is whether they will have a bold future.

(94,563 posts)4. One of Yang's lesser known Presidential planks was reducing the size of the Federal Government...
...that'll go over well with the public-sector employees.
