Source: raw story
Official confirms it was a Republican Congressman giving a Capitol tour to insurrectionists ahead of attack January 13, 2021 Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (D-NY) confirmed the account by Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-NJ) that insurrectionists were doing a "reconnaissance tour" with a member of Congress the day before the attack. Rep. Sherrill did a 13-minute video on Facebook Tuesday evening recalling seeing the incident. "I can confirm that," Rep. Maloney told MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace. "I don't have firsthand knowledge of it, but I spoke to a member who saw it personally, and he described it with some alarm. Some of our new colleagues, the same ones, of course, who believe in conspiracy theories and who want to carry guns into the House chamber, who today, today, have been yelling at Capitol Police, shoving them. Who a week ago were risking their lives to save ours. This conduct is beyond the pale, and it extends to some of this interaction with the very people who attacked the Capitol, and that's why the issue of making sure every member of Congress now goes through a metal detector, which has never happened before, is so important for the security of the inauguration and for our proceedings and it's a sad reality that we find ourselves at a place where the enemy is within, and we cannot trust our own colleagues." Tired of ads? Want to support our progressive journalism? Click to learn more. "So, I just want to burrow into this fact. It's so startling. Is it a member or member staff who gave tours to insurrectionists the day before the riot on Wednesday?" Wallace asked. "Again, I don't have all the specifics on that," he said. "My understanding is that there was a member showing people around. And that was the reason that when the person who relayed that story to me objected, the answer comes, 'well, they're with a member of Congress.' So, this issue, right, if a member of Congress wants to do it, traditionally, it has been assumed to be safe. That's why I sit on the House Intelligence Committee. No one does a background check of me. I've been elected by the people. I swear an oath to our nation's secrets and most of American history, we could rely on the fact that people would conduct themselves a certain way." He explained that for the first time since the Civil War, Americans can't be certain that an official in Congress won't try to bring a gun to the inauguration and attempt to assassinate President-elect Joe Biden. .......................................... 1. Stiffer penalties are needed. Our country it TOO lax on white collar crime,
so white people in power need to be reminded they are not above the law.

20. I know what white collar crime is.
I’m saying that because, those at the top with power are used to special privileges because we are so lax on white collar crime.

24. Consequences
Something plenty of rich folks know nothing about. You are so right, it is past time to educate those who feel our laws and rules do not apply to them that there are consequences to being a treasonous fuckwad, regardless of how wealthy you may be. There is a double tiered justice system in our society, and it is high time we return to applying it to everyone.

2. Fuck expelling them from Congress. Arrest them for conspiracy to commit murder.
They can serve out their Congressional term in federal prison. Maybe they'll even win the Repuke primary in 2022 -- that might not be a bad thing.

3. I don't follow. Why would a Republican congressperson give a tour to Antifa?
The RW talking point is that those were Antifa who invaded the Capitol.
![]() Or have they given up on that, finally? At least they haven't tried to blame BLM for it. Though of course they are a part of the "both sides do it" narrative. |

28. Silly, the MAGA person that did the insurrection last week
will pull off his rubber mask at trial and say, “i was antifa the whole time!” The crowd will gasp and shock. Some people will faint. Then he’ll pull off the antifa mask to reveal a lizard face. It’ll be wild.

6. The Fourteenth Amendment provides a path for rebels.
Section 3
No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability. |

9. I will say this again
This is treason by that republican congressman.
You see back in the day, Benedict Arnold was caught stealing away with General Kosciuszko's plans for the fortifications at West Point. The British were frustrated by the superior engineering of the fortifications at West Point. They just couldn't get past them and therefore did not have free navigation up and down the Hudson River. Arnold's intent was to turn the plans over to the British so they could defeat the defenses at West Point and have clear sailing up and down the Hudson River. Arnold was caught so West Point was never taken. To me, the analogy is just too similar. One individual is giving away architectural security plans to another individual or group of individuals who want to do our country great harm and/or defeat our country. You will never convince me this modern day version of revealing architectural engineering to an enemy of our country is not treason. The responsible parties need to be brought to justice. |

25. Yeah
But it was John Andre who was caught with those plans by rebels who were intent on robbing him. Those same rebels turned all of it in to the base commander, who was Arnold. He also discovered that General George Washington was arriving that morning for an inspection of the fort. So, Arnold ran like a coward and joined the British cause by receiving a generalship and later attacking a village 12 miles from his hometown. In other words, there was a fall guy and the main villain got away. We do not need this to happen again. We all know those cowardly, spoiled, little rich children (yes, they are all children, with ole Donny being the biggest child there) are going to try and run the second they see a gold-plated Lear or a full length limo. We need to charge them and seize their passports. Do not let any of them get away until they answer for this disgrace. Hey, if they did nothing wrong...

11. The title is not entirely correct.
There were more than one Congressman and the tours were noted by experienced individuals as being suspicious activity. JFC the head of the FBI went on national TV weeks ago and said the greatest threat to the US was from home grown groups. Was this warning purposely ignored because it wouldn't help unite the country?
