Parler's website is back online with a brief message to 'lovers and haters'
Source: CNN
Parler's website suddenly reappeared online Sunday afternoon with a message from its CEO, John Matze: "Hello world, is this thing on?"
The message, dated January 16, implies that the social network popular with members of the far right has found a new online hosting platform, after Parler was booted from Amazon Web Services on January 10 in the wake of the Capitol siege.
Parler now appears to be hosted by Epik, according to a WHOIS search. Epik is a hosting platform that supports Gab, 8chan and other services often used by members of the far-right.
Prior to hosting Parler, Epik issued a lengthy statement blasting what it said was a "kneejerk reaction" by major companies of "simply deplatforming and terminating any relationship that on the surface looks problematic or controversial."

(3,051 posts)I don't trust Facebook or any corporation to do the right thing.
I'm happy for them to have competition, even at the cost that some hate speech may mix in.

(23,334 posts)They have a business model dealing in misinformation and hate. The only reason Twitter and FB tightened things up is that Dems are now in charge of committees overseeing them and they wanted to avoid liability after the Capitol insurrection. They deserve ZERO credit for doing so. Gab, 8chan and Parler are the worst. Members openly threaten Democrats and political leaders. Thats not free speech.

(14,816 posts)even epik. Just put presure on whatever upstream provider they hook into.. They can't live without a network host, and they aren't one.

(9,124 posts)Their platform is completely writtten to run on Amazon's proprietary service. It will be a monstrous job to convert it to another. Many experts have said Parler does not have the talent to do that (which is why they went with Amazons service becauseall of the heavy lifting is automated plug ins for them.)

(36,130 posts)Epik's primary hardware and connectivity provider Voxility banned Epik from renting their server space. Voxility's vice president of business development stated, "We have made the connection that at least two or three of the latest mass shootings in the U.S. were connected with [Epik and BitMitigate]. At some point, somebody needed to make the decision on where the limit is between what is illegal and what is freedom of speech and today it had to be us." The Voxility ban took 8chan offline, along with The Daily Stormer and other Epik customers. On August 6, Epik reversed course and announced that they would not provide hosting services to 8chan; on August 7, Ars Technica noted that Epik had only ceased hosting their content and was still providing 8chan with DNS services.
Pharmaceutical watchdog website LegitScript reported in 2018 that they had alerted Epik to the sale of illegal drugs and counterfeit medications on websites registered by Epik, and that Epik had not acted upon the information
In August 2017, Epik and BitMitigate (an American cybersecurity company later acquired by Epik in 2019) began hosting American neo-Nazi, white supremacist, and Holocaust denial commentary and message board website The Daily Stormer.
