The Trump administration bailed out prominent anti-vaccine groups during a pandemic

Source: Washington Post

Five prominent anti-vaccine organizations that have been known to spread misleading information about the coronavirus received more than $850,000 in loans from the federal Paycheck Protection Program, raising questions about why the government is giving money to groups actively opposing its agenda and seeking to undermine public health during a critical period.

The groups that received the loans are The National Vaccine Information Center, Mercola Com Health Resources LLC, Informed Consent Action Network, Children’s Health Defense Co., and the Tenpenny Integrative Medical Center, according to the Center for Countering Digital Hate, a U.K.-based advocacy group that fights misinformation, which conducted the research using public documents. The group relied on data released in early December by the Small Business Administration in response to a lawsuit from The Washington Post and other news organizations.

Several of the Facebook pages of these organizations have by (sic) penalized by the social network, including being prohibited from buying advertising, for pushing misinformation about covid-19.

Vaccines are largely considered safe and effective, and clinical trials for both Moderna and Pfizer vaccines did not raise serious safety concerns. But many Americans hold skeptical attitudes about vaccination, attitudes public health experts have said are attributable in part to misinformation. Nearly 40% of Americans say they definitely or probably would not get the vaccine, according to a December survey by Pew Research Center. Certain groups, including Republicans and Black Americans, are even more skeptical, Pew found.

They never should have been approved. It doesn't make much sense to finance someone who is trying to convince people not to take the vaccinations that would help control this pandemic. Talk about push - pull!

But I wonder whether one was primary. Obvious candidates:

Undermining the credibility and effectiveness of government in general.

Seeming to justify or at least distract from the inability of the universe's self-anointed foremost businessman to do even the most minimal in the way of responding to the virus.

Minimizing the flow of funds to organizations that might actually do good.

All Roads Lead To Putin????????????????????????????????

I don't think anyone can argue that every single last thing Trump, his administration, and RepubliCONs did regarding the virus in the U.S. was the *EXACT OPPOSITE* OF WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT JUST THE VIRUS, BUT EVERYTHING THEY DID FOR FOUR YEARS was intended to bring down America and Democracy. Who do you think was directing it???????? Putin knew that RepubliCON Politicians, especially Trump and Lindsay were sooooo vain they would do anything to keep Putin from going public with all the Kompromat Putin had on a ton of their Polticians.......

The conspiracy theorists; the anti-everything crunchy hipsters, on down to "the government is listening to everything I say from the fillings in my teeth", bat-shit crazy far-right "the moon landing was filmed on a set in Burbank, CA."

So why NOT buy some votes for Trump from the public's money? 48 more hours. 48 more hours. I keep repeating that in my mind, but until it actually happens I still won't believe it.

Were you alive in the early 70's? when Hollywood made a really popular movie about the moon landing being faked?????? Or was it MARS?

Was it CAPRICORN ONE? (I remember at the time, a lot of people I talked to, actually believed the movie as if it was a documentary....

Upon Edit, yes it was! CAPRICORN ONE 1977 starring James Brolin?

***********************************************

Trump and RepubliCONS are quite literally taking their shit all the way up to the last Second. My biggest laugh recently was when they were cornered and had to admit that there were actually no MILLIONS OF DOSES BEING KEPT IN RESERVE FOR THE SECOND AND MOST NEEDED PART OF THE VACCINATION REGIMENT.....I laughed my ass off.............Here you have thousands of TrumpHumpers, trying to overthrow the government, and re-elect Trump who along with all his cronies are TRYING TO KILL THEM. That insurrection wil go down as one of the most colossal SUPER SPREADER events yet.......

I am seriously worried about the next two days, and all the way up to Noon Wednesday.........I fear this FULL BLOWN SHIT SHOW FINALE is just beginning.......
And if anyone thinks America and Democracy are safe after Noon on Wednesday.......there will still be 70 Million of "them", that will be even more upset that they fell short of overthrowing the U.S. Government so that they all could kneel before Trump and kiss his ring.......

I remember hearing about that movie, but I was never interested in seeing it. I followed the space race since Sputnik, staring into the night sky to catch a glimpse of a tiny white dot racing across the sky. My family and I were at Cape Canaveral for Freedom 7's launch, and I've tried to make as many launches over the years as possible. As you can see, I wasn't buying that "moon landing movie" bullshit at all, although my grandmother- who was a Jehovah's witness - never believed it to the day she died. I'm 71 now, so I feel extremely fortunate to live in such interesting times.

Good on you! Hope you and I live long enough to see this seriously start to turn the other way.......

I didn't buy the movie for a second, but was shocked at the number of people of that time that actually did........

In all fairness SS, as you probably also remember, a entire nation of them had been recently shocked at all the lies our Gov't had spewed about Viet Nam, Cambodia, and Laos.....etc etc so I can't blame them 100%........

Hang in there, and let's do all we can to destroy this outright war on Democracy. I have been screaming at the top of my lungs since the sixties, and I raised my screams a whole octave two months after Reagan stole the election, using he and HW's treason to do it.
(Along with Cheney/Rumsfeld/Wolfowitz/Pearle and dozens of others in that administration) It's been all downhill since then.....

The first demonstration I ever attended was Nixon's bombing of Cambodia. I haven't stopped since. Reagan was a piece of crap. He's responsible for the right-wing propaganda Wurlitzer we now "enjoy". I knew when he axed the fairness doctrine it would lead to bad business, but I didn't know how how bad. He's directly responsible for all of those right-wing radio stations, which led to Limbaugh which led to FOX Noise etc. etc. etc. I HATE REPUBLICANS, and my father was an elected New York State Judge. I sure made old Dad proud of me. We finally made amends in the early 90s, about 5 years before he died. I'm glad we didn't let it go until it was too late. Take care, and let's keep shouting until we can't shout any more.
