Some QAnon followers lose hope after Inauguration
Source: NBC News
Some QAnon conspiracy theorists, in public and private internet forums and chat rooms, were despondent Wednesday as their prophecy of an Inauguration Day coup to keep Donald Trump in power failed again as President Joe Biden was sworn into office.
The situation left some QAnon adherents with no choice but to write off the conspiracy theory entirely, though others continued to maintain that it was still developing.
QAnon supporters believed Wednesdays inauguration was an elaborate trap set by the former president, wherein Democrats would be rounded up and executed while Trump retained power. Various other doomsdays theorized by the QAnon community have also come and gone without incident.
But unlike those past days, Biden's inauguration leaves the community with little daylight. As their predictions failed, radicalized QAnon members expressed their betrayal on messaging apps like Telegram and forums named after their failed doomsday scenario, The Great Awakening.

As Trump boarded Air Force One for his last presidential flight to Florida, many QAnon adherents some of whom had earlier this month stormed the Capitol in a siege that left at least two QAnon devotees dead and others in jail began to wonder whether theyd been duped all along.
When one QAnon channel on the chat app Telegram posted a new theory that suggested Biden himself was part of the plan, a number of followers shifted into open rebellion: This will never happen; Just stfu already! Its over. It is sadly, sadly over. What a fraud!.....
It simply doesnt make sense that we all got played, one QAnon channel on Telegram said.

"Nothing can stop this," the account said in a message that had been seen by at least 185,000 people as of Tuesday morning. "They can no longer hide in the shadows," it added half an hour later. Then, 20 minutes later: "Last hours." It continued on like this. Around 10 a.m. ET it posted an ominous picture of soldiers in uniform behind a fence in Washington DC with the caption "Stay in your homes."
By Tuesday afternoon, the account had almost 220,000 followers -- likely helped by the fact that it was being widely and actively discussed and promoted on other platforms including Twitter (TWTR) and Facebook (FB). After CNN asked about the people sharing links to and promoting the Telegram channel on its platform, Twitter said it was "taking action on accounts sharing it" and would prevent the link from being tweeted further. Additionally, Facebook spokesperson Andy Stone told CNN that Facebook had started blocking the link to the Telegram account as of early Wednesday morning.
A spokesperson for Gen. Hyten told CNN Tuesday morning that the account is "an absolute fake" and added the Pentagon was "actively working" to get it taken down. Tuesday afternoon the account was marked as a "scam" with the message, "Warning: Many users reported this account as a scam or a fake account." The account has since shed some followers, and many of the messages have been removed. A Telegram spokesperson told CNN, "Telegram monitors reports and warns users about fraudulent accounts in clear-cut cases like the one you pointed out. " Facebook and Twitter did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

(15,675 posts)And okay, trolling a little. (YOU CAN'T JUDGE ME!) And I'm eagerly awaiting their next video where they have to explain they were wrong about what God was telling them. To a one, they were all claiming that something was going to happen that would have Biden and Harris arrested, and Trump would continue on as president.

They kept asking the moderator, "Why didn't this happen yet?" "I thought you said that was going to happen by now."
On and on.
One question I remember was, "I thought California was supposed to fall in the ocean at the start of this year."
It was NUTS!

These folks arent going away, but with any luck they'll be pushed back into the fringes where they belong.

(3,893 posts)They were always waiting for the big round up of the pedophiles. I used to ask them, if Trump knows who the pedophiles are, why does he wait and let more kids get abused? Wouldn't he want to come out and expose the criminals as soon as possible? To which they would accuse me of being a sheep brainwashed by the media.
I hope they all feel stupid and used.

Yet, the mental injuries may take a while to heal or they'll just latch onto some other crackpot, doofus idiot scam and further waste their one and only life on this planet. These people's brains are devoid of anything resembling critical thinking skills and are more akin to something as malleable as Play-Doh.

(8,006 posts)For instance, someone was pretending to be a General on the Joint Chiefs of Staff and had these idiots going in all directions chasing their tails over aspects relating to the always coming any day now you just wait... Storm. Apparently, it took the actual General showing up to debunk it and even then there were those who refused to get a grip on reality.
Is somebody just having what must be the time of their life pwning these idiots with increasingly ridiculous twists and turns or is it something more sinister, like a Russian effort to destabilize the easily led?
Like the religious doomsday cults, when The Storm doesn't materialize at the appointed hour, there's always some actor showing up to explain the failure away, usually with an even crazier CT. Who's doing this exactly cause they know it's BS?g fun with
