Goya board silences its CEO after he tells Fox News the election was rigged

New York (CNN Business) -- Goya's board of directors had enough of CEO Robert Unanue's public comments in support of former President Donald Trump and his unfounded claims of voter fraud. On Friday, it voted to muzzle him.

The board of the privately held Latino food company voted to censure Unanue, following his most recent controversial remarks that questioned the legitimacy of the November election, according to a person familiar with the board's actions, who spoke to CNN on the condition that their name not be used.

Unanue will no longer be allowed to speak to the media without the board's permission, the source said. The decision was first reported by the New York Post Monday evening.

The source said this is a "full stop" on Unanue speaking to the press, not only about politics, but also about the company itself.

A majority of Goya shareholders favor removing Unanue altogether but have been prevented from doing so by the dynamics of the family-controlled company, according to the source.

"The company has never been political or politicized," said the source. "He's gone from bad CEO to CEO that has imperiled the future of the company and endangered the lives of some of the shareholders," the source said in reference to some Unanue family members having allegedly received threats because of the CEO's comments.

... last summer sometime. You saw that, am I right? It was a huge breach of WH protocol. The guy from Goya got a face-to-face visit with Chump in the Oval Office. No doubt he made a big donation to Chump's campaign too.

I wrote to the families when this fool first stepped forward with his crap. They lost a life-long customer because they failed to immediately terminate this creature. I will happily find my black beans elsewhere. Every day this fools remains in the payroll means more of my money to the competition.

fully stocked. Discounts seems not to move it, and there was a time before all this CEO politicking started when the Goya brand was half-stocked on the shelves even though the prices were higher than most other competing brands. So Goya is cooked!

After his 45-hugging days, I completely ceased buying any of their products and it's a shame because if you want to find readily-available Latinx ingredients in supermarkets, they are certainly the biggest brand. But I found other brands that I know are out there and refuse to touch any more Goya.

And as much as the media reported little or no impact immediately after his love-fest, apparently there HAS BEEN blow back!

From the OP article -

That in turn prompted a so-called "buy-cott" by Trump supporters, including Ivanka Trump, who urged the president's backers to buy Goya products.

In December, Unanue told a conservative radio show host that Ocasio-Cortez was the company's "employee of the month," claiming that the congresswoman's July tweets had in fact boosted sales. But the CNN source disputed that the controversy has been good for the company, and Goya's sales figures are not publicly disclosed.

"It's hard to really say [the controversy hurt sales] but sales growth is less than it was pre-him speaking at the Rose Garden," said the source.

Excuse my slang but they (deplorables) ain't buyin' no Goya food because deep down, they want the makers deported "back to Mexico" (as if all Hispanics were Mexicans) .

Now that I wrote the title line I realize this is another example of the reality that whatever Trump or his immediate family touches goes belly up. The Pillow company is another example. They are destroyers.

If they want to show they're serious, they need to fire him at once. Until they do so, they public image of their company will be forever linked to his shilling for Donnie.
