Senate delays Mayorkas vote to Tuesday
Source: Politico
The Senate will postpone a final vote to confirm President Joe Bidens nominee to lead the Department of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, because of inclement weather.
The vote, which was originally scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Monday, will now be moved to Tuesday, according to a notice from the Senate cloakroom. The Senate will also hold a confirmation vote Tuesday on Pete Buttigiegs nomination for Transportation secretary.
The delayed vote comes as Washington, D.C., is expected to see more snow on Monday.
The Senate voted to move forward on Mayorkas nomination on Thursday afternoon. He received support from Republican Sens. Mitt Romney of Utah, Susan Collins of Maine, Rob Portman of Ohio, Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, and Dan Sullivan and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska.

(2,379 posts)1. O always wondered why we still use the terms, inclement weather and cloakroom.
I wondered the same thing in 2nd grade in the 1950s.

(15,336 posts)3. How about accumulation and precipitation?
No one uses those terms except meteorologists. I remember being a kid in 1985 and my Dad joking around screaming "Heavy accumulations!" after just hearing the weather report.
Anyway, here's a classic DU tread from 2015 on this very subject. Enjoy.
grammar/language nazi question: do we need the word "inclement"?

(1,660 posts)2. Isn't This Reason #1 Why Congress Should Consider Virtual Votes?
Certainly not ALL the time, but...you know...when the weather is horrific?
Or when the Capitol is under siege by domestic terrorists?
Just sayin'...
