Bezos stepping down as Amazon CEO

Source: The Hill

Amazon announced Tuesday that CEO Jeff Bezos will be stepping down from his top spot and transitioning to the role of executive chair of the company's board.

Bezos will transition out of his role in the third quarter of 2021, the company said while announcing its quarterly earning report from the end of last year.

Andy Jassy, the current head of Amazon Web Services (AWS), will succeed Bezos as CEO of the e-commerce giant.

Good managers/founders know when to make that decision, they know they are too comfortable with what they have been doing and that may be a problem for the future of the company, so they step down and allow new ideas to take hold of the company, while he/she sits on the sidelines making sure the store doesn't fall.

if he weren't the type of person who would continue working like he did, he probably wouldn't have created one of the greatest companies in history.

My company does a lot of business with Amazon. They are a high-maintenance customer who is very demanding and will drop your services in a heartbeat to prove a point. And I know two people who went to work in their corporate HQ. Both have already left, saying it is quite cut-throat. Given that companies take on the character of their leadership, ithink I have a pretty good idea of what Bezos is like.

He happened to be very very good at providing something people were willing to pay for.

So, why would he quit a day earlier than he wanted to?

I can argue about his Human Resources model, but not about his personal desire to go on working.
