On the eve of a parliamentary vote on whether an investigation should be ordered into the financing of Donald Trumps Scottish golf resorts, the former US presidents son has castigated politicians for advancing their personal agendas. Eric Trump issued the bulletin as the Scottish parliament prepares to host a debate called by Patrick Harvie, the co-leader of the Scottish Greens. The Trump Organizations executive vice-president also described Harvie as a national embarrassment.
Harvie is urging the first minister, Nicola Sturgeon, to seek an unexplained wealth order (UWO) in relation to Trump International, a course in Aberdeenshire, and the famous Turnberry resort in Ayrshire. If granted via courts, a UWO compels businesses or individuals to detail the source of their wealth.
The Scottish government has tried to avoid the question of investigating Donald Trumps wealth for far too long, Harvie told The Scotsman. There are serious concerns about how he financed the cash purchases of his Scottish golf courses, but no investigation has ever taken place. Thats why Im bringing this vote to parliament. The government must seek an unexplained wealth order to shine a light on Trumps shadowy dealings.
On Tuesday, Eric Trump hit back. Patrick Harvie is nothing more than a national embarrassment with his pathetic antics that only serve himself and his political agenda, he said. If Harvie and the rest of the Scottish government continue to treat overseas investors like this, it will deter future investors from conducting business in Scotland, ultimately crushing their economy, tourism and hospitality industries.

(7,583 posts)I'm third generation American. My Great-grandmother came over from Ireland on a boat. One generation less, and I -think- I could apply for citizenship (which I'd dearly love!). So, I think I can call myself an Irish Dem, too!
BTW, the pure Irish great-grandma married a 100% Amerindian. My grandma said when they got mad, you just got out of the way! (LOL)

On the other hand, Dems in America owe the Scots a lot just for all the wonderful, colorful insults they hurled at Trump from the get-go.

The Scots must be frothing with laughter. Americans are so linguistically clumsy, they must be thinking. They likely want to NOT decide tomorrow, but rather to piss and moan some more just so Eric Trump can make more hilarious comments. He has to be seen as immensely entertaining.
The Scottish Parliament is going to have to agree to investigate Trumpy-Boy's wealth. They can't back down now. They'd embarrass themselves if they didn't investigate. To some of US citizens, Trump getting bested by the Scots is great fun. Can't wait.
