(CNN)President Joe Biden vowed that no one in his extended family will have sway over government decisions in an interview with People magazine published Wednesday.
"We're going to run this like the Obama-Biden Administration," he said of ethics requirements pertaining to government appointees' family and friends to avoid the semblance of wrongdoing.
"No one in our family and extended family is going to be involved in any government undertaking or foreign policy," he added. "And nobody has an office in this place. They always have access to Pop and Nana but nobody (will have an office)."
Biden shared an anecdote of previously rejecting personal benefits that could have been paid by the government, professing his commitment to steering clear of impropriety.

(17,217 posts)This Is Still Happening: Trump Children Ivanka, Don Jr., and Eric
A roundup of Trump administration malfeasance, part 12.
What Is Still Happening: Trumps three grown children from his first marriageIvanka, Eric, and Donald Jr.have been the ones most central to his efforts to loot the federal government and Republican Party for as much money as possible while hes in office.
IVANKA AND HER HUSBAND Even after she announced she would shut down her lifestyle brand to avoid further conflicts of interest, it continued to generate upward of $1 million in sales for her and she continued to collect new overseas trademarks.
In 2018 alone, Ivanka and Jared reported as much as $135 million in income, much of which came from foreign business.
Jared and Ivanka likely broke the law when they pushed the administration to enact tax breaks for so-called opportunity zones, a program that happened to benefit the couple to the tune of millions of dollars.

the sons ..... DR JR AND ERIC
The sons also use their fathers political career to boost the Trump family brand. In 2017, a Mumbai, India, complex was sold as an an opportunity worth its weight in gold to be associated with POTUS. When Donald Jr. visited India in 2018, he spoke at an event that also featured Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The New York Times further reported that Indonesia is helping to build a major new highway that will make a new Trump development more accessible after a launch event in Jakarta attended by Donald Jr. and numerous local government officials. The Times also reported that the Aberdeenshire Council in Scotland dropped local development requirements to allow the Trumps to build. And during Trumps impeachment, Eric used House hearings as an opportunity to hawk Trump wine.

(11,563 posts)is that a Democratic President has to be Caesar's wife. Even having witnessed a President being excoriated over the colour of a very conventional suit, or, as his predecessor had been photographed doing (with no blowback), putting his feet on a desk, he knew which way the wind was blowing long before now. It's not just avoiding impropriety, it's avoiding even the appearance of it.
Besides, it's just The Thing To Do. What else would he ever do?

(50,557 posts)Trump tried to run the country like the Trump Organization. In that company, he got all his advice from his family members, and kept that system in the White House.
Biden has always relied on non-family members in his government roles.

(2,809 posts)The large organization I'd worked at many satellites for over 15 years, the last and final 4 seemed to become rife with undeserved promotions, discovering this was happening because totally incompetent so-and-so was joe blow high-up's second cousin's in-law. Truly sickening levels of mismanagement I was watching slowly crumble what used to be a fair outfit to work for. That nepotism reaching the top levels there, as though under the Trump mismanagement of the country, that organization I'll never set foot in again seemed to accept all that as okay. Next came the pandemic lay-offs of those doing the work.
I've seen this movie before, of entire organizations getting crushed under acceptance of "It's not what you know but who" as an employment axiom.
