London Scotland's parliament was to vote Wednesday on whether the government should pursue a civil investigation into the financing of former U.S. President Donald Trump's Scottish golf courses. The leader of Scotland's Green Party, Patrick Harvie, called for the vote, the results of which would be non-binding, to "protect Scotland's good name from association with the toxic Trump brand."
"Our tourism offer is important. It's an important part of Scotland's economy and our society, and it should not be tarnished by association with this white supremacist, extremist, dangerous liar and bully," Harvie told CBS News.

He also said Mr. Trump's Scottish developments had hurt the environment.

"We have a long standing tradition in that land in Scotland is managed in everybody's interests, not just with the interests of a handful of wealthy people, and that environmental protection is supposed to mean something. What we've seen is that environmental protection being ripped up for a pretty empty promise around jobs, which never really materialized in the end anyway," Harvie said.

Under the terms of an Unexplained Wealth Order a current or former political figure from outside the European Economic Area can be compelled to show financial information to demonstrate how they lawfully came to own their property in the U.K. Failure to comply can result in property being seized by the state.

Scotland needs to take the land back and give back Trump his money. He promised thousands of jobs
@ one of his courses and in reality it has produced less then 100 and over 1/2 of those jobs are as caddies.
Trump's golf course in N.E. Scotland needs to be removed and the local ecosystem needs to be restored.
It was part of a "dune community" that moves with the wind and stretches on for miles and miles. Scotland
already has a number of golf courses and I can almost guarantee that there is some plants, critters, and insects
that only can be found in and around that dune ecosystem.

(70,444 posts)If there can be a ground swell movement to get Trump and his golf course out of Scotland
and it has wide spread support Trump will be gone.
I just got excited there for a minute. They can't stand Trump in Scotland and meanwhile, his golf course is losing money. I doubt Putin is going to bail him out again.
Botany
(70,444 posts)1) He promised jobs @ his golf courses that never showed up.
2) Scotland still has on the books a law about where the funding came to invest into Scotland.
3) "They" just hate him.

BTW with my background Trump's spoiling of the coastal dune community in N.E. Scotland is a crime.

(47,244 posts)the environmental impact of his golf course. Trump thinks he can promise anything, break laws at will, and there will be no consequences. One of his problems is he thinks he is as important as he pretends he is, and thereby untouchable.

Anyone heard different please let us know.

(7,219 posts)The Scottish Greens had wanted the Trump Organisation's golf courses probed via an unexplained wealth order.
It requires individuals to explain the source of wealth used to acquire property and other assets in the UK.
Justice Secretary Humza Yousaf said it would be an abuse of power for MSPs to tell prosecutors what to investigate.

Without an ongoing or concluded court case against Trump, it would have been an overtly political act for the Scottish Parliament to directly petition the Scottish Court of Session for pursuit of an Unexplained Wealth Order.
These orders aren't intended to be used for fishing expeditions, they're generally invoked when other legal action raises suspicions.
