Florida town completes legal review of Trump's residency at Mar-a-Lago

Source: CNN

West Palm Beach, Florida (CNN)The legal review by the town of Palm Beach into the use of Mar-a-Lago as former President Donald Trump's permanent home concluded that the original agreement among the town, the resort and Trump does not expressly prohibit him from residing there.

In a memo produced by the town's attorney and posted on the town's website, lawyer John "Skip" Randolph advised the town to look instead to its zoning ordinance, which permits only bona fide employees to reside in private clubs. Thus, if Trump is a "bona fide employee of the club," town zoning would allow him to live on the premises, Randolph concluded.

Randolph recommended in the memo that the town council hear from interested parties, including Trump, and debate the issue further.

A letter to Randolph from Trump's attorney last month argued that the former President is a bona fide employee of the resort and therefore is "clearly entitled to reside there."

I'm not sure how long he can even afford to keep that place running. Many members can't get out of there fast enough. I wonder if he has any properties that aren't losing money. I expect to see some fire sales soon.

No one is to live there -- that was the deal for the tax abatement.

Either one or the other -- you can't have both.

When the rethuglicans complain about welfare cheats they never mention this kind of grift which is a much bigger problem. How much money did the local school not get so that Mar A LArdo didn't pay taxes?

Again -- there are never consequences for republicans. It has been 3 weeks, where was the indictment from the Michael Cohen case? The NY state cases? And now the signed contract is not going to be used.... this makes me sick.

The "boss" of most organizations is usually also an employee.

I'm sure Trump is at the top of the heap, so he wouldn't have a boss, similar to the owner/CEO of a private company.

He does get very good lawyers and that is why he has been able to get away with so much evil. His lawyers know how to write contracts with holes where they know the evil creature will eventually can get through, they really know what they are doing.

I wish that were true. My present hope is there is a Hell where he can spend eternity. At least there he can continue to surround himself with lawyers.

Previously, I had hoped he would get COVID and be put on a ventilator for months, unable to talk, tweet or move. Dammit, he even beat that one! And he had the White House physician lie about his condition while he was in the hospital, which is why Biden fired that doctor during his first week in office. Who wants a doctor who lies?
