GOP leader McCarthy condemns comments by Rep. Greene but stops short of proposing any action
Source: Washington Post
Democrats said Wednesday they would move to oust GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from her two House committees over her past extremist statements after Republican leaders declined to do so on their own a highly unusual move by the majority targeting a member of the opposing party.
The announcement from House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.) highlighted the turmoil in the Republican ranks over how to handle the rising extremism and embrace of bogus claims among the partys base, as well as the paralysis of House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) in the face of the convulsions.
Late Wednesday, McCarthy issued a statement condemning Greenes words, but stopped short of proposing any action against her. Past comments from and endorsed by Marjorie Taylor Greene on school shootings, political violence, and anti-Semitic conspiracy theories do not represent the values or beliefs of the House Republican Conference. I condemn those comments unequivocally, McCarthy said.
Greene (R-Ga.) was elected last year after having embraced the baseless QAnon ideology during her campaign. She suggested in social media videos taped before her election to Congress that mass shootings were false flag events staged by gun-control advocates and has also made social media postings supporting calls for the assassination of prominent Democrats, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

But he offered no plans to act against the Georgia Republican as the House is poised to move ahead with its vote Thursday to strip her of her committee assignments.
This is a developing story and will be updated.

(4,006 posts)A deeply divided voter base will form if it hasn't already. True blue Republicans must be aghast at what their party has become. Weasel-word McCarthy will go down in flames as a QAnon enabler, anti-Jewish cabal believer and heck, even an alienator of space-based laser fans!
It's hilarious as I never envisioned on Nov 3rd when we won that it would not even take 90 days for the R-Scums to implode, hate their own (Liz C.) and embrace that dunce MTG. They deserve it as Greene will take them down that road to Perdition, make no bones about it!
McCarthy, I will toast you (and the winning Super Bowl team) on Sunday night. Thanks for helping us for God knows how many years. Aside from the now disgraced Trump, you deserve the second slot for helping to destroy the GOP.
My hat is off to you sir!
