Harry Dunn: Suspect Anne Sacoolas 'worked for US intelligence'
Source: BBC
The woman accused of killing Harry Dunn was working for a US intelligence agency at the time of the crash, a court has heard.
Mr Dunn, 19, died when his motorbike was in a crash with a car near RAF Croughton in Northamptonshire in 2019.
Suspect Anne Sacoolas returned to the US, claiming diplomatic immunity, and an extradition request was blocked.
A court in Virginia has heard her work was "especially a factor" in her leaving the UK...
...Speaking after the hearing, family spokesman Radd Seiger called on the UK government to "urgently reinvestigate" whether Mrs Sacoolas had diplomatic immunity, given "the admission in open court by Mrs Sacoolas's counsel that she was employed by US intelligence services at the time of the crash".

(9,352 posts)She ran. It was disgusting.
She used the Diplomatic Immunity thing as way to weasel out of her arrest.
This is an international incident.
Wonder what Blinken is going to recommend?

There is of course No Such Agency for the NSA, the National Security Agency.

(4,190 posts)I have read that this happened just outside of the base's gates. She was on the wrong side of the road.
I also read that she stayed in England for 3 weeks after the accident and that the US government is who arranged for her to leave. Also, didn't the UK government also know and approve of her leaving the UK?
I am not condoning the actions, but would just like the facts. From everything that I have read, this was an accident. Implying that she was drunk is irresponsible if you don't have a source.

(4,190 posts)An investigation into the collision led by Nick Adderley, the chief constable of Northamptonshire Police, determined, from CCTV records, that a car had been travelling on the wrong side of the road.[15] Sacoolas had cooperated with police at the scene of the crash and was breathalysed. She was interviewed the next day at home and the police said she had cooperated with them. She had said she was driving on the wrong side of the road when she collided with Dunn.[4][5][16][7] Diplomatic immunity was mentioned during the interview, and Northamptonshire Police applied for an immunity waiver later that day. On 16 September, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) informed the police that the waiver had been declined and that Sacoolas had left the UK on a US Air Force aircraft

(4,190 posts)However, I do have personal knowledge of that base and followed the case for a while.
1. Croughton is a US spy base
2. The accident happened 400 yards outside of the exit of the base.
3. She was on the wrong side of the road. They do however, drive on the US side of the road on US bases in the UK and accidents do happen when switching to the other side of the road when outside of the base, especially so close to the base gates.
4. She did not flee-- she stayed in the country for 3 weeks. She cooperated and was breathalyzed.
As I said earlier, I am not condoning the US not extraditing her. But facts are facts.
