House GOP keeps Cheney as No. 3 leader, stands by Greene

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Republicans decided Wednesday to stand by two GOP lawmakers who have polarized the party, voting to retain Rep. Liz Cheney as their No. 3 leader and saying they’d fight a Democratic push to kick Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene off her committees.

In a 145-61 vote by secret ballot, House Republicans overwhelmingly rebuffed a rebellion by hard-right conservatives to toss Cheney, R-Wyo., over her vote last month to impeach then-President Donald Trump.

Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy ridiculed Democrats for slating a House vote on Thursday that would remove Greene from her committees. McCarthy’s comment was a signal that he was dismissing bipartisan demands that the hard-right Georgia Republican be punished for her online embrace of racist and violent views and bizarre conspiracy theories.

The decisions over Greene and Cheney have subjected the GOP to a politically agonizing test of its direction as it moves beyond the Trump presidency. Since he grudgingly vacated the White House last month, the party has been ideologically adrift as it’s struggled over whether to embrace his norm-busting divisiveness or the party’s more traditional, policy-oriented conservative values.

Democrats are demanding that the GOP leadership remove her from committee assignments because of her history of using social media to endorse outlandish conspiracy theories and violent, racist views. They may have applauded her, but in reality I’m sure they snicker.

With dotard’s popularity down 20 points since December, it may come sooner than later

control of the house, I think she MIGHT just lose both of them. I HOPE SO! I live in Ga. & she's made me ashamed of my State! We finally elected Warnock & Ossoff to the Senate & her actions have put a black cloud over us & we can't even celebrate turning the Senate Blue.

Dems, don't let your guard down. If these cucks don't even have the courage to challenge the lunatic(s) in their midst then you know damned well that they're going even further down the rabbit hole, whether they want to or not. They've completely lost any semblance of control over their party. They were all in with the Tea party back in the day, thinking they would be able to tame that beast - which they didn't. Now? The lunatics' are literally running the asylum and there is now no constraint at all on the cray-cray.

and the headlines need to be "Republicans divided over racist and violent views and bizarre conspiracy theories" since that's the truth.

Unfortunately, it takes a 2/3 vote of the whole House to kick someone out. It’s just not up to Pelosi.

But, that was Qevin McQarthy and the QOP House Steering Committee that stripped Steve KKKing (R-Nazi) of his committee assignments, not the whole House. In this case, it will be a (mostly) party-line vote of the Democrats vs the QOP.

There will be a few who will cross to vote with the Democrats, like the guy from Illinois and possibly Cheney herself. But since she just got her ass handed to herself on a platter - and NOT ONE GODDAMNED THING was done to Marjorie Taylor Greene (Q-Batshit Fucking Crazy, GA), I think she’s probably going to toe the Q-ball party line for a while.
