GOP Texas Rep. Chip Roy Calls House Gun Ban an 'Outrage,' Considers Legal Action
Source: Newsweek
Texas Republican Representative Chip Roy criticized the recent implementation of metal detectors and fines meant to prohibit lawmakers from carrying guns into the House floor, and said he is considering whether to take legal action.
"It's an outrage. I believe it deprives us of our Second Amendment right to defend ourselves," Roy said, according to The Washington Free Beacon.
Roy's criticism comes after metal detectors were placed outside of the congressional chamber on January 12 in order to prevent individuals from carrying weapons inside the building.
The measure was ordered by Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi just days after a violent mob of former President Donald Trump's supporters stormed the building. The attack left five people dead, including one Capitol Hill Police officer.

(71 posts)For the last 15 or more years I have to go through a metal detector at our local courthouse where I work. There are also metal detectors at airports and other transportation hubs, schools, hospitals, museums, etc.
I guess I assumed that the capitol building had the same protocols!
And the fact that they are whining over something the rest of us have acclimated to over many years boggles the mind!

(8,907 posts)yes I had to go through the metal detectors to enter.
At the bottom of the image, you see the North Entrance and South Entrance, each having a Security Screening.
This is where they have metal detectors.

The 2 huge plate glass rectangles that you see just in front of the entrance are actually skylights

(47,280 posts)I remember going to get a new Social Security card and they had metal detectors and armed guards at the door. Courthouses have been like that for well over twenty years. The entitled attitude of some of these congressional representatives is outrageous. They are supposed to represent and serve the people of their district or state, they aren't some kind of royalty. I think it goes to a lot their heads, especially some of the freshmen, who don't seem to even understand what they are there for.

WTF. Something about their politics of fear, denial and spite -- probably their fake religiosity, lack of character and integrity, their Nazi world view -- shows that in the end something is seriously wrong with these people -- like the bottom line truth that they are incapable of governing whether they're in or out of power.
That they pretend to reprepresent 30% of America is a horrible reflection on at least 72 million voters who don't know or care that these guys are doing donors' bidding more than theirs.

Personally, I would feel a whole lot less safe being in a room with the current GOP reps. I think they win the prize of being the looniest so far in my lifetime.

expecting to come in here and shoot up the place? Why is it you wear a target? Who did you invite in here to settle your score with? You must have really pissed off some very serious people if that's the case. People I don't want to meet nor spend time near. They are dangerous and will get someone else killed.
If they are going to come after you and shoot why should I allow you to be anywhere near me or anyone I care about? You certainly shouldn't be using us as human shields.
Stupid and dangerous is no way to go through life, son. You'll have no end of problems parking, or getting a good table, or meeting nice people, and who needs that? It just might get you killed, too.

(54,302 posts)Then Democrats can bring bazookas to defend themselves against trigger-happy Republicans with hand guns.
Since handguns can be drawn faster than bazookas, Democrats are allowed to fire their bazookas any time they feel threatened by the sight of a Republican with a gun. Careful, there might considerable collateral damage.
Unarmed Republicans take note--if you see one of your party with a gun near you on the floor, and you are aware that a Democrat has noticed and is pulling out his or her bazooka, make immediate use of one of the following security measures:
1.) get the hell out of the way, stupid!
or, for longer-term security,
2.)switch parties.

(81,125 posts)I am growing more tired, by the hour, of hearing the whining about the fucking Second Amendment.
So if anyone wants me to shut up and leave it alone, I will HAPPILY do that - IF I can have my two friends back. Murder/suicide - stemming from an argument that got too heated too quickly, and, sure enough, a handy-dandy gun within easy reach.
And they both knew better - AND had lots of firearm training from their police friends with whom they worked and were friends.
And they're GONE.
Just fucking GONE.

(8,039 posts)This would basically mean anyone could carry a gun into any court room in the land.
Last time I went to the Supreme Court to watch oral arguments the security was quite stringent. It's been a while, but I can't imagine security has been loosened over the years.
"Yeah, what do you think your honor? Next time you piss off a defendant, you'll have to consider whether or not they're packing. Shouldn't worry you at all, right?"
Either this man is a fool or a brazen cynic. Probably both. I can't imagine any reputable attorney even considering such a case. Maybe one of the Krakens, but otherwise...
