Lou Dobbs's Show Is Canceled by Fox Business

Source: New York Times

Fox Business has canceled “Lou Dobbs Tonight,” the weekday show hosted by one of former President Donald J. Trump’s most loyal media supporters that became a frequent clearinghouse for baseless theories of electoral fraud in the weeks after Mr. Trump lost the 2020 presidential race, according to a person familiar with the decision.

Mr. Dobbs, 75, who rose to fame as a CNN anchor, began hosting his Fox program in 2011 and gained an influential fan: Mr. Trump, who shared his hard-line views against immigration and later came to view Mr. Dobbs’s program as required viewing, even patching in the television host during policy discussions with his White House staff.

Mr. Dobbs was named in a lawsuit filed this week by the election technology company Smartmatic against Rupert Murdoch’s Fox Corporation, the Fox News channel, and two other Fox anchors, Maria Bartiromo and Jeanine Pirro.

The suit cited a false claim, made on a November episode of Mr. Dobbs’s show on Fox Business, that Hugo Chávez, the deceased president of Venezuela, had a hand in the creation of Smartmatic technology, designing it so that the votes it processed could be changed undetected. (Mr. Chávez, who died in 2013, did not have anything to do with Smartmatic.)

I remember when Dobbs was on CNN and he played it pretty straight-laced but began to eventually deteriorate until he finally left. I saw his last show there including his parting monologue. And I also remember Maria Bartiromo when she was on CNBC for years.

It's truly bizarre the transformation they both made to get into a franchise that was, by design (in terms of businesses and hotels, etc., locking their "public-facing" television sets to the Faux Snooze channels), the "highest rated" cable channels.

I had never originally associated them with loons like Hannity and Carlson but they morphed into them anyway.

This is an attempt to distance Fox from the lies told on the network, but it won't work.

The lies were spread under the Fox banner, by its outlets, for months after the election.

The Murdoch family and Fox board and stock holders won't squirm their way out of this so easily.

At some point the cost of telling these lies is going to drag the whole enterprise down.

And it won't come a moment too soon.

This is going to be part of what will surely be a settlement deal I expect they are working on for the Smartmatic $2.7 billion defamation lawsuit.

And I wouldn't be surprised if Dominion gears up to throw one at them shortly since they already have a $1.3 billion one against the Kraken loon and sent cease and desist letters with threats to Faux & Hannity to expect suits as well.

By keeping them on the payroll it shows some negligence on the part of the corporation. That would leave them open to law suit as well. As it is, it appears they're doing something about it.

I see Sean Hannity came out yesterday denouncing a lot of the conspiracy theories espoused by his media comrades. It's obvious Fox is trying to protect it's number one brand. For now.

BOOM! Lou Dobbs: 1st victim of the multi billion$ lawsuit against FOX. Fox stock equity is only some $10billion. The suit is over 20% of that. I doubt they can survive if the suit is not dismissed. IRONY: Trump wants to force media outlets to be more vulnerable to libel suits.

He didn't have to go to work for Fox and it's not like he didn't known what kind of a network it is. Same with Maria Bartiromo, who was a reputable financial journalist before she signed on with Fox. Now she is just a joke, no one will ever take her seriously again. Fox is one of those career lines you can't cross. You can never go back to the real world again.

WABC Radio inserted in the following statement before cutting back to Giuliani’s show: “The views, assumptions and opinions expressed by former U.S. Attorney, former attorney to the President of the United States and New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, his guests and callers on the program are strictly their own, and do not necessarily represent the opinions, beliefs or policies of WABC Radio, its owner Red Apple Group and other WABC hosts or our advertisers.”

https://www.thewrap.com/rudy-giuliani-fumes-on-air-about-insulting-disclaimer-added-to-his-radio-show/

The radio stations have been doing the "disclaimers" thing (disassociation) for a LONG LONG time!

Ghoul is on from 3pm - 4pm ET - https://wabcradio.com/show/rudy-giuliani/

I've listened to WABC on and off for 40-some years. I think that years ago, that slot was part of the drive-time 3 - 6 pm that Bob Grant used to have before he went to WOR (and then returned back to WABC before going bye bye for good), with fill-ins at the time being done by Hannity and Mike Gallagher (Gallagher is apparently still there).
