WASHINGTON Congressional Democrats on Monday will unveil a proposed addition to the developing coronavirus relief package that would provide up to $3,600 per child to families over the course of the year.
The IRS would distribute the money monthly, totaling $3,600 per child under the age of 6 and $3,000 per child ages 6 to 17, based on a tax filers income, according to a draft copy of the plan obtained by NBC News.
The money would begin to be distributed in July if the proposal is included in the Covid-19 relief measure that Democrats in the House and Senate are currently considering.
The plan, to be introduced by House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal of Massachusetts, was first reported by The Washington Post.

So adding wording that specifies that should not be difficult.

(8,670 posts)100 percent about helping children. I dont want it to turn into breeding for cash that we see throughout.
Many of those kids get little from the parents that oversee the spending and many do not get the love from those that make kids for cash.
Is this tax credits for actual working families, not just cash for kids?
We do need to address population ultimately. Many species of plants and animals get hit hard with pathogens and not enough resources to continue as a species. I, in as little as 30 years of teaching Natursl Resources, have seen first hand, eradicated species, and at minimum out of control disease.

(3,394 posts)Im all for helping kids, but Id like to see SNAP benefits increased across the board. Also more money for the elderly who solely rely on Social Security. Working people without kids are already paying too much in taxes, too.

(7,189 posts)And that's better. Tax credits only work against income you have earned, and that can be really hard for a lot of families.
I think help for ALL single moms, ALL financially struggling families, can be a big driver for the economy. Even without Covid-19, so take that out of it.

(8,311 posts)I believe this is the "one year refundable child tax credit rise" that was initially discussed as part of ways Biden was wanting to use existing credits, etc, to get stuff to families.
Since it's a refundable credit, allowing it as an "advance credit" would definitely help struggling families.

Most of the families I know are pretty well off, and unaffected financially by the pandemic. Even though raising kids is expensive, they all have dual incomes, and own homes.
It's the people who are unmarried, with no kids are struggling hard right now. They're likely to be younger, and were the first people to lose jobs when the pandemic started.
For reference, I live in the suburbs of a major city, and my friends range from ages 25-40.
