U.S. Rep. Ron Wright, R-Arlington, died Sunday after being hospitalized weeks earlier with COVID-19, his campaign announced in a statement Monday.
Wright was first elected to his post in 2018 and won reelection last year. The 67-year-old had been battling cancer for several years.

(5,897 posts)Yes, he'd been elected but hadn't been seated. So Wright was the first sitting member to die of it.

(15,385 posts)The other guy never was sworn in, so he was never a Congressman.

(15,385 posts)Wright is the first sitting member of Congress to die after contracting Covid. In December, Congressman-elect Luke Letlow died after being diagnosed with the disease.

(102,225 posts)Not sure what bee is in your bonnet, but my response to the OP is correct. Nowhere did the poster state "sitting Congressman," but your argument for argument's sake is noted.
Polybius
(15,385 posts)You don't become a Congressperson (or Senator, or even Supreme Court Justice or President) until the day you are sworn in. He sadly passed away before he got that chance.

(102,225 posts)ridiculously argumentative. If that is what you need to do to feel validated, please proceed.

(15,385 posts)He was never a Congressman period. Despite being elected, being a Congressman never happened for him. On his gravestone it won't say "former Congressman" either, because he never was one.
It was you who first "attempted" to correct the OP. When politely stated by the both of us that you were incorrect, you refused to accept the truth, despite proof. Your first reply said "A congressman just elected." He was never a Congressman.

(2,957 posts)...but I don't think he was one of the crackpots. I won't celebrate his death unless I found out he was an anti-masker or conspiracy theorist.
And before anyone spams me with hate...yes, I am indifferent (almost celebratory) about the death of anyone who dies from afflictions that they minimized, dismissed or protested mitigations for in life.
If you're an anti-masker or anti-vaxxer and you die of Covid - good. If you're a pro-gun, open-carry, guns-guns-everywhere nutjob and you get shot and killed by mistake by "a good guy with a gun" - good.
I'm opposed to the state-imposed death penalty. But, I'm all for death-karma. Fuck the hypocrites.

Special Elections can be very interesting. We should know what comes next fairly soon
TX 6 adjoins TX 12, where I live and if the Democrats turn out big it could make a difference
In the words of He Who Shall Not Be Named "We'll see what happens" (I cringe every time I catch myself saying that)

Let's hope that the Q's lose a few more seats over their secession attempt.

Only the other hand, he was a proponent of prematurely opening businesses and schools and promoted this by using cherry-picked evidence.

So they'll never wake up until they lose more seats.

TX 6 was solidly Democratic until the 2001 redistricting. I lived in that district for a while and we had a great representative - Martin Frost.

Others in the party should take heed and quit acting like a bunch of Trumps.
In 2014, Wright's office added the motto "In God We Trust" to its stationery including on tax assessment envelopes and tax statements.
Good thing he had such trust, huh?
He held caucus with the new Tea Party (Freedom Caucus).
He took Barton's seat, who I think was the idiot who sent out a video of him masturbating.
