Dem lawmakers splinter over criteria for $1,400 stimulus payments as Biden relief bill advances

Democratic lawmakers are increasingly divided over the criteria for the next round of stimulus payments, splintering the caucus even as they aim to quickly pass President Biden’s $1.9 trillion relief package.

Democrats will include payments of $1,400 per person in the stimulus proposal, fulfilling a key pledge from Biden to bring $600 payments from December to $2,000 in total. But they disagree over who should be eligible to receive them, with mixed signals from the Biden administration complicating the situation.

Democrats have not decided the final threshold levels for the checks to include in their plan despite having little time before they are expected to release legislation, according to one aide granted anonymity to discuss internal deliberations.

“There’s a discussion right now about what that threshold will look like,” White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said Monday. “It’s still being negotiated at this point.”

Thank you so very much to both you and your wife. You are both in my thoughts.

My parents will also be cut off if the income is under 100K. It should not be that way. My mother is a home care nurse, treating patients with COVID in their homes. My father works at Trader Joe's. Neither have gotten sick (yet) thank god.

People like you and your wife are the heroes of this past year.

LA type climate.

Super hot in Phoenix, High humidity in Houston, much of the South (and the NYC Tri-State area in the summer 🤪 ) Tornado Alley, Winter - snow, ice, sleet, freezing rain, floodings, real hilly areas, unpaved areas, ETC!

I'm always nice to my postal people - letter carriers, and at the PO.

You forgot you also bring cards from family, and friends. Plus the magazines, and catalogues we really enjoy!

So thanks!
And good luck to your wife!

BTW - you might enjoy "The Postman" w Kevin Costner. It's pretty cool. If u haven't seen it.

Since when is receiving $1400 considered such a giant gift? It's hardly a rent payment for hundreds of thousands, if not millions. It is high time for those in government to realize that earning $75k a year, in 2021, is not exactly a lot of money. With houses, cars, credit cards, student loan payments and the high cost of everything, setting the limit at $75k is ridiculous. Considering lowering it is worse.

They had none of this concern over giving the wealthy a nice fat tax break, which they did not need.

if they lived in San Francisco.

So, under these restrictions, the person in WV would qualify for the $1400, but a person earning $100k in SF would not, even though the person in SF is actually earning LESS than the person in WV, adjusted for CoL.

that many of us will do the right thing if we get stimulus checks that we don't actually need. Many of us will send money to people or places that can use it. Not the trickle-down economics of the rich, but people helping people, helping their communities, food banks, humane societies, sending some to help teachers buy supplies. I especially like giving to humane societies, because as people are pressured, their pets are going to the shelter.

I hope the Dems focus on helping essential workers, unemployed workers, small businesses, and eschew entities that already got giant tax breaks that took income away from cities and states.

Nobody bitched about Kanye, Kushners and fucking Tom Brady or Joel Olsteen from getting million dollars checks. And now outrage over $50,000 to $75,000 stimulus checks of $1,400. Those are people that actually pay taxes that cover those checks. Let’s see how much the afore mentioned assholes paid in Taxes. Olsteen zero, cause you know, Jesus.

We need one voice, we need action taken in a timeframe that is measured in hours. There is a minuscule percent of rich folks who will just stick it in the bank, sure, but we're letting the perfect be the enemy of the good and playing 'class warfare' against a LOT of people who voted for President Biden.

The size of the check will decrease based on income for individuals who earned more than $75,000 based on their federal tax return for 2019 (or their 2018 return if they have not filed yet). The payment for individuals will shrink by $5 for every $100 earned over $75,000. For couples who filed jointly, the reduction will start once they earn more than $150,000; for heads of household, at $112,500.
