'I'm going to come kill the president': NC man charged with threatening Biden

Source: Charlotte Observer

A Gaston County man with a long history of violence is charged with threatening to kill President Joe Biden.

According to newly unsealed documents in the case, David Kyle Reeves, 27, of Gastonia, made a series of angry and erratic phone calls to the White House switchboard between Jan. 28 and Feb. 1 in which he threatened to kill the president and other federal officials. He repeated the threats in phone conversations with the Secret Service in which he dared agents to try and stop him, documents show.

“I’m going to come kill the president, I’m going to kill the Secret Service because I own this whole planet,” Reeves said in a phone call to a Secret Service special agent, according to an affidavit.

In subsequent phone calls, according to the affidavit, Reeves taunted the agents, saying his threats were protected under free speech, and that he would continue to make them.

I do have sympathy and empathy for those struggling with menatl health, but I also believe in not inciting those incapable of regulating dangerous notions.

No thanks to the Reagan administtation for clearing out the mental institutions, making homelessness among the mentally ill common site.

where the most hideous abuse was rife.

The plan under Ford and Carter was to replace them with community mental health centers and group homes that were not only more humane, and actually worked towards independence and dignity, but also cost fewer tax payer dollars.

What Reagan did was empty the institutions AND defund all the community based programs, leaving homelessness and prison the only options for so many.

A huge percentage of our prison population are people with significant mental illness.

It disgusts me that Reagan is seen as a great president by so many, when in fact his administration was the beginning of this nation's long decline into the current state of dysfunction.

And often staffed by people with their own set of problems. More so than usual, couldn't get or hold down a similar job in more upmarket facilities.
Same for old folks nursing homes.

I was a teacher, had a female student who dropped some serious hints she was interested in being 'Mrs Lash' and would I like to be a customer?
(No, I didn't take the offer up. Lips sealed, no response from me.)

Met her again 2 years later, just wandered in, same 'offer'. Loose screw still loose.

Said he was working in a nursing home. Figures!

Vast majority of staff are kind and dedicated to their job. The main issue is atrociously low levels of staffing. Even at better facilities, there’s rarely enough help.

...that his murder would be the "perfect crime." The cops are not going to waste their time trying to figure out which of the 10,000 people in town this man has threatened since he decided to embark on his career as an asshole finally decided he'd had enough of David Reeves' shit.

It boggles my mind. I learned this is school. I may not remember the case but I sure remember that you can’t go around and scream fire in a theater. There are limits. With rights comes responsibility. How do people not know this?

David Kyle Reeves

Also from the original post:

In one of the calls, according to the affidavit, Reeves appeared to threaten to kill members of Congress. In another, he told the Secret Service “to come pick him up, and take him to the White House so he can punch the President in the face, sit in his chair, and stay there until he dies.”
