The House managers will ask the Senate to subpoena witnesses for former president Donald Trump's impeachment trial.

Specifically, they want to depose Rep. Jaime Herrera (R-WA) who confirmed on Friday night that the top House Republican, Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), told her that Trump had sided with the mob during the riot.

He's going to skate. We don't like it, but this is hopeless and a waste of time. Not to say I'm pissed, but this isn't going to do anything.

I swear, one of the biggest beefs I have with politicians is they can never seem to pass up a chance to talk. When there's a spotlight they always take the opportunity to go into some long-winded speech that repeats the same message over and over and never seems to end.

We have a witness to verify that McCarthy called Trump for help and Trump responded that it seems that the rioters are more concerned about the election than you are. McCarthy responded, "who the fuck do you think you are talking to." Not only is this the smoking gun, but it is a bomb shell for the press that is going to stick.

Witnesses are the one thing that Trump can’t bullshit or lie his way out of, which is why his attorneys are scrambling right now. This is damning. Those who were there need to be heard. Pence and McCarthy especially. And, if possible, depose those Trumpers who now admit they were duped into doing Trump’s bidding.

If we truly give a damn about the Constitution and our way of government, this needs to play out as it will.

All due respect to Einstein, we cannot ignore what happened on Jan. 6. EVER. If the video evidence, combined with Trump’s actions going back to 2015, weren’t enough to seal the case, witnesses just might.

Since way more people are not paying full attention - this stunning, and abhorrent (but not surprising) retort by Trump to KM about Pence; and while I have serious disgust for the man, this hideous reaction that trump would let Pence "hang" (if he made that far to gallows before being assassinated) is beyond the pale.

Imho I believe once these intense headlines of witnesses's evidence comes out to the larger public - it will further sink trump and the Rethuglicans who supported him in the minds of around at least 60% - 65% of Americans (I never quite believed
this near "50 - 50" split), and will help us in 2022 to fight off losing the House, and Senate keeping our country as a democracy going.

The House Managers are presenting an incredibly strong case that will be documented for both present-day humanity—not just Americans—and for future generations. Regardless what happens afterwards, there will be a record of the events, who was integral in causing them, who was complicit, and who—by their votes—are willing to aid and abet.

The video evidence presented the other day is an invaluable historical record in and of itself. But combine that with the transcript of the trial — the facts will speak for themselves no matter what the verdict is. That is another reason to do this.

23. I'm Not Arguing About The Strength Of The Case

It's as obvious as the nose on my face. This isn't a "normal" jury trial. When would a juror talk with the defense lawyer about strategy?!? When would a juror be allowed to walk out or not be pay rapt attention to the case in court?!? When are jurors allowed to announce before the case is closed that they will acquit?!? This whole thing is a farce. The Democratic party did the best job they could but in the end it's not going to change the outcome.

There's nothing to gain here. You're wrestling with a pig (and they like it). Minds are made up. Trump is going to skate. The Republicans will have to deal with this mess for a long time. They can not and will not change because holding power is the only thing they understand. We'll have to be satisfied with putting these people on trial in real courts where they can't skirt the rules and hope the judiciary is fair and jurors actually follow their conscience and do the right thing.

Ultimately, I think there will be a price to pay for what the Republicans did. Unfortunately, it will be long delayed and not enough (in my opinion).

Most sane folks see what is happening and are repulsed. More details will come out as the rioters cases go to court. Congress, the press and historians are going to be going over all the gory details. We'll undoubtedly see more evidence supporting the Democratic position in the coming months.

Follow Biden's lead. Concentrate on fixing things Republicans have broken and get the vaccine rolled out. Getting things back to normal is going to help Democrats in future elections. The best argument against Republicans is they break things and are incapable of managing to fall off a log.

And every time CNN has brought up the surprise of unprepared GQP Senators, who apparently thought it was time to acquit Individual 1, asking what they just voted for before withdrawing their vote, and every time the "defense" "lawyers" throw a tantrum that would've gotten me sent to my room as a toddler (well, WE will call 100...no, 300, no, a BILLIONTY witnesses and we'll be here forever and you'll NEVER get the really good chocolate cake with TWO scoops of ice cream!), I start laughing again.

Does it make a difference in the outcome? Probably not. You might sway a couple more votes to convict, but unless McTurtle comes out publicly in favor of conviction it still falls short. But it gets things on the record and under oath. I wonder what kind of actual criminal activity is going to be documented...I wonder if the extra weeks will see additional grand jury announcements as ongoing investigations start to bear fruit.

We should be legislating as if we are going to lose the house in 2022. Hopefully, we won't but odds are we do, so we've got less than two years to heal everything Trump did to this country and Trump-proof it. We need every second of every day of every Democratic congressperson's time on recovering from Covid, ensuring voting fairness, attacking systemic racism, and starting to tackle climate change; chasing down and beating on a failed dictator, as soul-satisfying as it might be, is less important to the greatest number of Americans than these.
