A new poll released Saturday shows a majority of U.S. adults believe former President Trump should be barred from running for public office again.
Fifty-three percent of US adults polled said that Trump should not be allowed to run for public office again while 50 percent said they would vote to convict Trump in the Senate impeachment trial if they were given the vote, a poll by Ipsos conducted for Reuters found.
YouGov and The Economist had similar results for their poll released on Friday that also said 53 percent believe Trump should not be allowed to run for office again.

(17,912 posts)Even in this climate, that's a solid, Democratic win. Obama in 2008 had just under 53% and swamped McCain in the EC. Anything 51% or below is iffy. Of course, the new census may change even that some.

(26,044 posts)...Obama won OH, IN, IA, and FL. Does anyone seriously think those states are going to be in play for us in 2024?
And, even in the recent race, where Biden won by an over-4% margin in the popular vote, and a considerable EV count, only a few thousand votes switching in key states would have given us a second Trump term. The simple fact is that our electoral system is FUBAR, and Democrats have to win by a mile to win at all.

They maybe should separate impeachment
and disqualification for future office.
Just a thought.

(24,761 posts)The GQP Sedition Caucus should also be removed and further DQ'd for aiding, abetting, and/or being accessories to the Capitol insurrection. IDGAS how scared those rethugs are for their safety--they should have stood up to Trump, knowing full well he's a hardcore psychopath incapable of guilt or remorse, and do the right thing in spite of the death threats.
Death threats never stopped the Georgia or Arizona election officials, or even Mike Pence, from doing their jobs, so what's stopping Congressional rethugs? Maybe they're Trump's co-conspirators.
