Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Monday sharply condemned the U.S. State Department and accused them of "clearly" supporting and standing behind Kurdish forces after the agency released a statement condemning the killing of more than a dozen Turkish civilians.
In the statement, the State Department did not directly blame the PKK, a Kurdish militant group designated as a terrorist group by Turkey, saying that the U.S. "deplores the death of Turkish citizens in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq," while adding that "If reports of the death of Turkish civilians at the hands of the PKK, a designated terrorist organization, are confirmed, we condemn this action in the strongest possible terms."
Reuters reported that the U.S. ambassador to Turkey, David Satterfield, was summoned to Ankara while Erdoğan criticized the State Department's remarks in a fiery speech.
"Now there is a statement made by the United States. It's a joke. Were you not supposed to stand against the PKK, the YPG? You clearly support them and stand behind them, "Erdoğan said in a speech delivered in the city of Rize, according to the news service.

(107,858 posts)BAGHDAD A civilian contractor was killed and a U.S. service member was injured Monday night when coalition forces in Irbil were stuck by "indirect fire," U.S. officials said.
The rocket fire landed near a military base that hosts coalition forces in the capital of Iraqs semiautonomous Kurdish region. Five civilian contractors were injured, tweeted coalition spokesman Col. Wayne Marotto.
A U.S. defense official, speaking on the condition of anonymity to describe an evolving assessment, said the attack appeared to involve 14 rockets that targeted a U.S. facility in the vicinity of the Irbil airport. One U.S .service member suffered a concussion. Four American contractors working with the coalition military operation were injured and one non- American contractor was injured.
One non-American contractor was killed. Military officials did not have an immediate independent assessment of who launched the attack, the official said.

Notice how carefully worded the State Department statement was. Biden is not Trump, thank G-d, and Erdogan will not be running roughshod over Joe. That's probably what he is upset about. I doubt that he gives an RA about 20 innocent citizens that were killed in his country -- any more than he cared about Kurdish private citizens getting slaughtered. People like this just don't care about other people. Not really.
