Trump Regains Support Among Republicans After Impeachment, Poll Finds

Source: U.S. News and World Report

Former President Donald Trump has regained support from Republicans following his acquittal in his second impeachment trial.

A new Morning Consult poll found that a majority of Republican voters, 54%, said they would support the former president in a hypothetical 2024 presidential primary election – the same percentage from November.

Trump's support has recovered in the most recent poll after falling to 42% in a January poll following a deadly riot at the Capitol, an event that prompted the second impeachment trial.

Conversely, former Vice President Mike Pence's support did the opposite. In a November poll, Pence had support from 12% of Republicans. That increased to 16% in the January poll, when Trump's slipped, and then declined to 12% again in the most recent survey.

He managed to pull off 2016 cause he trashed Hillary and the only reason we won in 2020 was overwhelming turnout nationwide. However, in Georgia,Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania those margins were all within either 1-2 points. If the Democrats in those states stay home again we are screwed. Sorry to be so negative

Even if the voters the party retains are becoming even more radicalized (and thus isolated from the mainstream)

it became the party of Trump. It's been reported that tens of thousands have left just since January 6, but I have to imagine that's a drop in the bucket overall. 54% of a million is one thing. 54% of half a million is another.

He is a white supremacist.

He supports their religious extremism.

He is obviously not an intellectual, and Republicans prefer their presidents to be intellectually challenged.

He is a mean, nasty human being, and Republicans like mean, nasty people who would rather se their guns because they’re angry than have a meaningful discussion about political differences.

He hates all the people they hate: black people, brown people, Asian people, immigrants, the poor, women, LGBTQ.

He lies constantly, and Republicans know that it liberals and Democrats hate the lies; therefore, they love the lies.

He appointed hundreds of federal judges and three Supreme Court judges who support all of the above.

I know a lot of people who live in Florida, Texas, in South America and you cannot imagine how frustrating it is to talk to these people, they are MAGATs, even though they don't vote in the USA...

Those I am talking about are very decent and loving people, 90% of them are educated (Lawyers, doctors, engineers, etc.), most are wealthy, well traveled, its not like they are dummies, they cannot afford to be racist because some of them have dark skin, many of them Mediterranean skin which to many racists is brown enough to be hated, even though if they take their socks off their feet are white...Mediterranean people are white, but they burn really good when under the sun.

Nope, there is some unknow element that is not in your list.

djt an 2nd time? What benefit did we derive from this 2nd impeachment act? I still don't understand the logic even though there has been discussions on DU as to why they did it/the 2nd attempt to impeach. All that done (IMHO) is give oxygen to rump and his brood of misfits. Go let them die in peace, ignore them, go about our business of government and ignore all things rump as well as those that still harp on all things rump. They are not in power, we are. Let's use that time wisely. I know that there's fear of djt running again, but that's years and years away, are we over-analyzing?

Before the election, Tr--p had a 94% approval rating among Rs. 94% approval does not compute with 54% wanting him to run.
If they got 54% in November it was a flawed question.
Those polled probably figured he'd win reelection so the question was complicated by the 22nd amendment.
That major flaw invalidates all their conclusions.
I think it best to pretend we never saw this garbage poll.

I've seen Trump as a Satanic individual for quite some time now. I believe he's a high ranking Satan; one of the top ones on the planet; perhaps only subservient to Putin.
And, as the highest ranking Satan in the USA, all the dark ones in this country are subservient to him. That counts as 10's of millions of people; his base.

They will never abandon him, for he is their God.
No matter what he does!
It's pretty much the same for Putin in Russia, and Hitler when he ruled Germany.
That's why I feel we have won a battle, but the war still rages.

This is the most important, and most severe test this nation has ever had to go through.
A failure here, and the whole great experiment in Democracy that our founding fathers engaged in is over.

Cheeto's but a minion of Satan's - one of oh-so many grubby, self-interested toadies and puppets Old Scratch uses to cause as much trouble as possible in the world.

And not a very good one at that - because fortunately for us all, the fat bastard couldn't organize a one-man parade.

We may not be so lucky next time.
