'It was a mistake' - Sen. Ted Cruz tells ABC13's Tom Abrahams after returning home from Cancun

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Omaha Steve (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- In a one-on-one interview with ABC13 from inside his home, Ted Cruz said he regrets taking a trip to Mexico as thousands of Texans remain without power and running water after a historic winter storm ravaged the state.

So, what was he thinking? Tom Abrahams asked Cruz that question to kick off the sit-down interview and the senator said he was simply trying to be a dad. The high-profile Republican lawmaker told Eyewitness News he and his family were among the many Texans who lost power.

So his daughters mustered up an idea.

"They said, 'Look, lets take a trip. Lets go with some of our friends and lets get out of here and lets go somewhere warm," he recalled. "And [Cruz's wife Heidi] and I said ... lets go."

To misquote Coach Taylor on Friday Night Lights Season 1 Episode 13: "I've been late for dinner. I forgot stuff at the supermarket. What you did wasn't some mistake, Senator. What you did is that you indulged yourself while screwing your state over. You know what you call that? You call that a stupid, dumbass, cowardly act, Senator."

not give a damn about how it would look nor about the people of Texas.
Now, that aside I think it would be a good strategy to corner every single Republican Senator that is going to run for office again in 2022 and 2024 and ask them if they think he should have done it and if they are willing to condemn it as it might come in handy during the election to get them on the record.

He can attempt to toss whomever he wishes under that bus... the decision was his, the idea was his, and the arrogance shown by even contemplating such a thought shows just how much of a overblown asshole he is. Oh, and I would like to offer up what I feel is the real reason for this little sojourn. "Our power grid, that we spent all that time convincing these gullible Texans would be better for them, has failed due to negligence. I bet those subhuman worker bees will be banging on my electrified and secured front gate any minute now. How about a trip to Cancun?"
