Suspected Oath Keepers are charged in a plot to attack the Capitol.

Source: New York Times

The Justice Department brought charges on Friday against six people suspected of being members of the Oath Keepers, a right-wing militia group, adding new defendants to a case that had already accused the group of an organized plot to attack the Capitol on Jan. 6.

The charges, filed in Federal District Court in Washington, accused Kelly Meggs, the self-described leader of the Oath Keepers’ Florida chapter, and his wife, Connie, of joining four other militia members, including a married couple from Ohio, in a “stack” of Oath Keepers who ascended a flight of stairs outside the Capitol and then breached the building. The group of six, court papers say, worked with three Oath Keepers who were charged last month: Thomas E. Caldwell, Jessica M. Watkins and Donovan Crowl.

The new indictment against the nine Oath Keepers is the most significant evidence to date that far-right extremists worked in advance to try to prevent Congress from certifying President Biden’s victory on Jan. 6 and help former President Donald J. Trump stay in power.

In late December, prosecutors say, Mr. Meggs, 52, referred on Facebook to a tweet in which Mr. Trump predicted that a rally in Washington on Jan. 6 to protest the results of the election would be “wild.” “He wants us to make it WILD that’s what he’s saying,” Mr. Meggs wrote in his Facebook post. “He called us all to the Capitol and wants us to make it wild!!! Sir Yes Sir!!! Gentlemen we are heading to DC.”

I read their website once. Scary stuff. They have a list of things they won’t do...it basically amounts to “these are the orders we refuse to follow.” Which is why they’re former whatever they were.

I'm still wondering about those guys, that was terrifying. The crowd on the steps and you watch about 10 fully uniformed in their cosplay outfits marching up the stairs in a tight line.

Add in conspiracy and its much higher. Oh, and the death penalty is also on the books for treason. Great life choices.

That’s because (1) what they did isn’t quite up to the Constitutional definition of treason, (2) it’s almost impossible to get a conviction on a treason charge and (3) the very long list of charges we CAN convict them on will put them in USP Terre Haute for the rest of their wasted lives.

What gets me is whatever gave them the idea that they could do anything about overturning the election. They had to know there were people on the inside workin with them and that there wasn't going to be a lot of heavy security.

Someone's going to break especially if there will be long prison sentences.

The same 6 Oath Keepers that provided security for Roger Stone on Jan 5tht? And since Stone is so close to Trump, were members of the Oath Keepers present at the Jan 5th meeting in Trump's DC hotel. And, last, was Trump on speaker phone for that meeting. The Web tightens.

that your MJ article references (only one name ID'd at the publication time) and didn't see a match to the superseding indictment document for the OP article's list. However at the time of the ABC article (2/5/21), the "security detail" with Stone hadn't been arrested... yet. It's possible they have by now (and they haven't been confirmed as part of that detail yet) or arrests are pending. I expect there were piles of Oath Keepers there in any case.
