Militia member didn't meet with Secret Service before Capitol riot, her attorney now says

Source: Columbus Dispatch

An attorney for an Ohio militia member charged with conspiracy walked back a controversial claim that implied Jessica Watkins met with the U.S. Secret Service about working security for the Jan. 6 rally for Donald Trump before she participated in the Capitol riot.

The lawyer’s original motion, filed over the weekend, raised questions about whether the Secret Service had coordinated rally security with paramilitary groups that later stormed the U.S. Capitol.

Federal authorities allege Watkins coordinated with a group of at least eight other people who wore tactical gear and helmets and marched in military fashion into the Capitol. Hundreds of rioters stormed the building, sending lawmakers fleeing and leaving five people dead.

The Secret Service wasted no time rejecting the original claim that it had worked with Watkins or any private citizens on security for the rally. The agency said it relied only on the assistance of government partners.

The sad part is whatever bullshit she manufactured, she probably believed and perhaps still believes. Her attorney probably just convinced her to back off that claim as it would only serve to reveal she's a bullshitter and would work against her in court.

thought better of letting this lie go forth. Claiming falsehoods and perpetrating lies works in conspiracy fantasy land but not so much in a court of law. They tend to frown on it and there are repercussions.

As I said before, inflated self-importance. These people believe they are a part of something 'bigger than them' and want to be heroes. "And then trump said to me..."

But given how deeply Q & fascism is embedded in our government (see: McConnell, Graham) and military (see: Flynn Brothers, O'Grady), it's possible that someone in the Secret Service was colluding/organizing with the insurrectionists. Of course it's more likely that someone might have lied about being a member of the secret service to Watkins. Or, more likely, she just assumed that was who she was talking with. Talk about a confirmation bias!

and I imagine it's hard getting a straight story out of any of them.

I consider most of them very sad. They're also dangerous, so just because they were operating out of a rabbit hole is no defense.
