Miller tangles with Florida GOP freshman at House immigration meeting

Freshman GOP Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar got into a lively exchange over immigration with former Trump aide Stephen Miller during a meeting with a group of House Republicans on Wednesday, according to multiple Republican sources.

The back-and-forth came during the end of Miller’s presentation before the Republican Study Committee, the largest conservative caucus within the House GOP. Miller, the architect of Donald Trump’s hard-line immigration policies, spoke before the group alongside other former Trump administration immigration officials.

Sources say Salazar pushed for immigration policies that would broaden the GOP tent while challenging Miller on how Republicans can attract Hispanic and Latino voters given the ultra-conservative policies he is advocating.

The gathering — which also included Tom Homan and Mark Morgan, two top Trump immigration officials — comes as Democrats are expected to soon introduce legislation to overhaul the U.S. immigration system. ......................................................................................

2. Rep. Salazar, face it. They don't want people like you.

You're a token. It's a "I have a Hispanic friend" kind of relationship. In short, you're being used and abused by racists. You can either leave or, if you have no soul, make money off the deal like Clarence Thomas. Your choice. But you're not changing the GQP. It's the party of racist, old white people and they like it that way.

convenience, I do know she is a Latino, but many of them are worst than the racists and nationalists themselves, I know a few that after I talk to them I have to pull my hair, many of them even justify the horrendous actions during trump's tenure regarding family separation and caging children, and I have a feeling that Salazar is one of them.

Lets face it, her argument is "how to bring more Latino votes", not about helping Latinos families.

Why would she support trump so much? She only cared about being elected. Hypocrites, all of them.

4. Representative Salazar is correct that ultra conservative policies are not appealing to Hispanics.

Republicans have made some inroads with Hispanics, and Democrats need to pay attention. I would like to see Jaime Harrison appoint at least two Hispanic outreach coordinators, one for cuban Americans and one for Mexican Americans. Those groups have very different needs and attitudes. Hispanics in Texas are primarily Mexican American with some Central and South Americans thrown in. It is a mistake to assume that current citizens support immigration of more from Central American countries. We tend to think of the Mexican American population as more recent immigrants, but many of them have a long tradition in this country as descendants of the Mexican families that occupied Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, and other states when those territories were part of Mexico. Indeed, many Hispanics of Mexican heritage have been here far longer than the descendants of white people. They have little in common other than a language with more recent immigrants.

I need to collect some research on some of the areas of Texas that surprisingly added votes for Trump and provide some background. Living in Texas, I see the diversity of our Hispanic communities. They are not a monolithic, one-size-fits-all group. They are some of the hardest-working people I’ve ever seen, but far too many of them still struggle with poverty and a lack of healthcare.

but many of them have a long tradition in this country as descendants of the SPANISH families that occupied Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, and other states when those territories were part of Mexico.

Some families in the US were here since when SPAIN controlled the west prior to Mexico.
Spanish Land titles in New Mexico were upheld as legal when land was being taken away from them because the people stealing the land claimed that the Spanish land titles were invalid in the US. Courts ruled that Spanish Land Titles were legal.

15. "Gordian"? I don't think this has anything to do with the Gordian Knot. What do you mean?

Gordian may refer to:

Gordian I (c.159–238), Roman emperor for one month with his son
Gordian II (c.192–238), son of Gordian I, Roman emperor for one month
Gordian III (225–244), grandson of Gordian I, Roman emperor from 238 to 244
Saint Gordianus (disambiguation)
Gordian Fulde (born 1948), Australian medical doctor
Gordian Warrior, Japanese anime television series, 1979–1981
Gordianus the Finder, fictional protagonist of Steven Saylor's mystery novels set in Republican Rome
Gordian worms, a common name for Nematomorpha, a phylum of parasitic worms
Gordian, antagonist in Quiz & Dragons: Capcom Quiz Game
Gordian, related to Gordium, capital city of ancient Phrygia
Gordian Knot, legend of Gordium associated with Alexander the Great

Mind though, Stephen Miller is a worm and a parasite.

... a meeting of RepubliQons for RepubliQon political purposes, per article excerpt.

It is Politico's headline writer at fault. A partisan "Study Committee" is not a "House" committee any more than a RepubliQon caucus meeting is a "House" meeting.
