WASHINGTON Dr. Anthony Fauci said Sunday that this weekend's emergency approval of the Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine now gives the nation three highly efficacious vaccines on the market that provide significant protection from Covid-19, and urged Americans to take whichever is available to them when they become eligible.
In an interview with "Meet the Press," Fauci said that he would take any of the three approved vaccines from Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson because all provide strong protection from severe disease related to the coronavirus. As director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Fauci was vaccinated late last year amid an early push to inspire confidence in the vaccine rollout.
All three of them are really quite good, and people should take the one that's most available to them, he said.
"If you go to a place and you have J&J, and that's the one that's available now, I would take it. I personally would do the same thing. I think people need to get vaccinated as quickly and as expeditiously as possible.

(5,004 posts)risk. Im going to take one of the vaccines with higher efficacy. It seems with J&J they want us to be ok with higher chance of getting moderate illness. No..I waited a year and I will wait a little longer for the best vaccine available.

(44,972 posts)But I am not eligible to be vaccinated anyway. So I would have to wait months to be vaccinated anyway, and then I would prefer to pick the most efficient vaccine.

I recall hearing this on the news:
"There were no Covid-19 related hospitalizations in the vaccine group 28 days after inoculation . . "
But not the rest of the sentence in the article:
". . . and just two, among people above 60 years of age, in the two weeks prior."
And I never heard this at all:
"The vaccine showed 42.3 percent overall efficacy in people over 60 with other health risks such as obesity, heart problems and high blood pressure which is lower than the FDAs 50 percent bar for authorization."

(163 posts)I don't mind taking a chance on myself with J&J. My concern is that I'll get the virus anyway and pass it to my mother. She has gotten to the Pfeifer vaccinations. Not sure what to think. J&J is supposed to be really effective to prevent needing hospitalization.
