'Kraken' Sidney Powell loses again as Supreme Court tosses her remaining attempts to overturn vote in Arizona and Wisconsin

On Monday, BuzzFeed News justice correspondent Zoe Tillman reported that pro-Trump lawyer Sidney Powell suffered yet another blow, with the Supreme Court tossing her remaining petitions to challenge the results of the election in Arizona and Wisconsin.

Powell was originally cheered on by former President Donald Trump's allies, with campaign lawyer Jenna Ellis saying she and Rudy Giuliani would "release the kraken" — a term that was swiftly picked up by adherents of the QAnon conspiracy theory.

But Powell's challenges to election results around the country bungled basic facts, with her at one point apparently believing that Detroit was in Wisconsin. Powell's antics swiftly embarrassed the Trump team, with Ellis issuing a statement making clear Powell was acting in her own capacity and not on behalf of the campaign.

10. As I predicted here, SCOTUS was not going to take these election cases.

I saw a lot of concern that SCOTUS would "give the election to Trump" but certain criteria must be met before SCOTUS hears a case & it's usually 1) conflicting lower court rulings (for example two different appeals courts making opposite rulings on the same basic set of facts, so SCOTUS has to decide which ruling will stand), or 2) a question of constitutional interpretation (the Constitution is genuinely unclear about something & requires interpretation).

None of the election-related cases met either of those criteria so there was no reason for SCOTUS to hear the cases, & I'm confident that even the conservative judges are reluctant to expand the criteria much beyond that, for good reasons that they well understand.

Note that "because POTUS wants us to" has never been, & deity of your choice willing, never will be a reason for SCOTUS to take a case.

Powell's lawsuits and conspiracy theories have opened the possibility of devastating consequences for her.

One election-technology company she falsely claimed was part of a plot to falsify election results, Smartmatic, filed a defamation lawsuit against her, Fox News, and Rudy Giuliani, seeking $2.7 billion in damages. Another, Dominion Voting Systems, filed a $1.3 billion defamation lawsuit against her. Those companies have filed other lawsuits as well and sent legal notices to people and companies they accused of parroting or platforming her claims.

It's true... The cultists will still believe. I don't think they are ready to rejoin reality yet. The good that can come if Smartmatic & Dominion win... Not that they would get all the money but it is that Powell will once again turn to fleecing the marks for more cash. I'm expecting that well has about run dry. I can't see even the marks wanting to give more when she is laughed at by 3/4 of the country and cannot put together any type of coherent case. It will be nice to see them take another small step on the road to recovery.
