Bronx senator calls on 'Monster' Cuomo to resign amidst new harassment allegations

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Omaha Steve (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

Source: AM NY

As Governor Andrew Cuomo faces a probe into newly alleged sexual harassment against a second former staffer, a Bronx senator says it’s time for him to go.

Calling Cuomo a “monster” on Twitter, Senator and sexual abuse survivor Alessandra Biaggi expressed her disgust with the Governor in a written statement which called on Cuomo to leave his post after allegedly sexually harassing two former staffers, Lindsey Boylan and Charlotte Bennett.

“I am especially horrified by the comments the Governor made to Charlotte about her experience with sexual assault – comments he did not deny making. They are the epitome of a hostile work environment,” Biaggi stated, adding that “the harassment experienced by these former staffers is part of a clear pattern of abuse and manipulation by the Governor, and that pattern makes him unworthy of holding the highest office in New York.”

Biaggi, who chairs the senate’s ethics and internal governance committee also criticized and questioned how truly independent this investigation could be as, in her own words, “the Governor’s influence touches all entities in New York that might review his conduct.”

and about 20 other Senators, but of course the blame is put on Gillibrand. Why do anything but blame a woman, just to ensure a man is NEVER held responsible for assault. I'm over the hypocrisy explanation. That gives people who repeatedly excuse men's actions too much credit. I now realize this is about maintaining men's entitlement to control women's bodies, and even more so when it's assault.

And of course, that goal is furthered by blaming a women and fully excusing all the men who spoke out against Franken.

His father was 10X the Governor he is, though.

This should be investigated and, until that happens, people should not be drawing conclusions or even speculating.

But I find this highly suspicious, with his re-election looming in the near future and at the height of his approval ratings, all of a sudden this comes out?

As far as the Boylan accusation is concerned, there appear to be holes in it. At the beginning of her "Medium" article she says:

We were flying home from an October 2017 event in Western New York on his taxpayer-funded jet.

New York State doesn't own any jets, just turboprops! That alone makes me highly skeptical.

Recall that Lindsey Boylan was a Justice Democrats endorsed candidate in the primary against Jerrold Nadler last year, and she's now a candidate for Manhattan Borough President.

She apparently has had a bone to pick with the Democratic Party since 2019. This is a pay site, but here's an excerpt:

In late February, Lindsey Boylan, a former adviser to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, received a pointed email from a powerful acquaintance.

The sender, a prominent Democratic party donor and activist, told Boylan that her plan to run for the Democratic nomination against incumbent Rep. Jerry Nadler of New York was a lost cause, and that she may have already "seriously impaired" her political future by simply considering the challenge.

The message — a common one communicated by establishment figures to primary challengers, if not normally in writing — alarmed Boylan, but also hardened her resolve, she said.

"That was really intended to be a veiled threat," Boylan told INSIDER. "And if that happens to someone like me who's had all these great advantages and is comparatively in a place of opportunity, it's hard to imagine what happens to other people and other women."

https://www.businessinsider.com/democratic-party-primary-challengers-crackdown-2019-4

Makes one wonder, if the Democratic Party was so "anti-women" (they're NOT) back then, why wasn't this current claim aired back in 2019?

He was pretty amazed, and so were many in his district. Jerry has been a tireless champion for both Democratic causes and his district. He told me that a few disgruntled members of one certain ethnic group (I'm not saying which) in his district had a beef with him about not being deferential enough to their wishes. They decided to finance a primary challenge against him, something he had not had to face in a long time. He beat it off, of course--the people in his district know him by now. It was meant as more of a nuisance harassment, and none of the parties involved were under any illusions to the contrary.

I believe Gov. Cuomo has been divorced for some time but there is a line that shouldn't be crossed in the workplace. The more astute singles pick up the subtle hints from the opposite, or even same sex, whether there is interest.

The more clumsy ones don't and plow ahead and sometimes get themselves in trouble.

In the last 5 years I have had two very close friends be falsely accused of sexual harassment and it cost them dearly to defend themselves. One was a female friend accused by another female (who had falsely accused her uncle as well). Another was a male accused by a bitter ex. In both cases by friends were hauled off to jail on mere accusations. Mug shots taken, had to make bail to get out. Thousands of dollars spent defending themselves, both were found innocent when their accusers admitted they lied. Their lies were easily disproved by simple checks against times they claimed the abuse happened and the whereabouts of the accused. Provable records of being out of town, at work, at a doctor’s appt, etc. None of that evidence was looked at before booking and mug shots taken. Oh, and no consequences whatsoever for those who made the false accusations.

I’m all for the Me Too movement, but if a mere accusation can ruin someone’s career, and false accusations aren’t punished, then it becomes way too easy to weaponize sexual abuse accusations. It also runs the risk of making people skeptical of legit sexual accusations.

Let’s let an investigation happen before we take one sides word (whoever’s side that is) at face value.

A civil suit might be in order if they felt like they were forced out of their jobs or discriminated against because they didn't respond. If any of his behavior rose to the level of assault, then criminal charges should be filed.

In any case, give this some time before forcing him out of office. We know the right wing likes to pull this shit on Democrats they've targeted and Cuomo's covid response would be enough to get him targeted. See: Joe Biden.

So far, I haven't seen the monster that Biaggi has. I see a jerk who needed to be told he's not god's gift to women and to knock it off.
