House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is denying former President Donald Trumps claim that she denied assistance from the National Guard during Januarys unrest at the Capitol.
I definitely gave the number of 10,000 National Guardsmen, and [said] I think you should have 10,000 of the National Guard ready, Trump said in a Sunday interview with Fox News Steve Hilton. They took that number. From what I understand, they gave it to the people at the Capitol, which is controlled by Pelosi. And I heard they rejected it because they didnt think it would look good. So, you know, that was a big mistake.
Responding to a question about the statement, Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill told The Washington Post, Trumps claim was completely made up. National Guard troops arrived at the Capitol just before 6 p.m. on the day of the Jan. 6 uprising that led to the deaths of two people, including a Capitol Police officer. Unrest had mostly subsided prior to the Guards arrival, and has led to weeks of finger-pointing over the cause of the delay.
Paul Irving, the House sergeant-at arms, and Michael Stenger, the Senate sergeant-at-arms, resigned after the incident. Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund told the Senate last week that he wasnt aware at the time of an FBI report warning that protesters could bring war to Washington.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), in a tweet, Feb. 15, 2021.....
The Pinocchio Test
Without evidence, Jordan asserted that House Speaker Pelosi had denied a request for National Guard troops two days before the insurrection. Instead, public testimony shows she did not even hear about the request until two days later. Jordan also tried to pin the blame on the House sergeant-at-arms, but testimony shows the Senate sergeant-at-arms also was not keen about the idea.
We will keep an eye on this issue in case new information emerges that would result in a new rating. But for the moment, Jordan earns Four Pinocchios for his tweet. Speculation is not the same as evidence.

(6,802 posts)It seemed confusing to me when I first heard it. That's a sign you are being propagandized, because it did not seem in character with Pelosi. But why wasn't there a full scale effort to rebut on January 8? NOW, I finally hear the truth. And evidence that Cheeto and GYM were just flooding the zone after Jan 6 with this bullshit.
