U.S. House panel reissues subpoena for Trump's tax records

Source: REUTERS

(Reuters) - A U.S. House of Representatives panel has reissued a subpoena seeking Donald Trump's tax and financial records, saying in a memo made public on Tuesday it needs the documents to address "conflicts of interest" by future presidents.

In a court filing on Tuesday, House lawyers told a judge that the House Oversight Committee reissued a subpoena to Trump's accounting firm, Mazars USA LLP, on Feb. 25.

The committee issued a similar subpoena in 2019, but that subpoena expired in January when new U.S. lawmakers took office.

Tuesday's court filing included a Feb. 23 memorandum from the committee's chairwoman, Representative Carolyn Maloney, explaining to colleagues the decision to reissue the subpoena.

It needs to be a lot harder for future administrations to just ignore subpoenas and get away with it like the orange con man did. How many times during the 2016 campaign did we hear "Lock her up!" and "Crooked Hillary" ? And yet, that con man and his whole corrupt administration was crookeder than a dog's hind leg, from top to bottom. We need to see to it that nobody can just ignore subpoenas like that con man's administration did for four years.

Manchin and Sinema will not vote to get rid of the filibuster, the single tool that Republicans have to stop any progress. If we can hold all Senate seats—not a given since Georgia Republicans will lie, cheat, and steal to replace Warnock—and add two more, then Manchin and Sinema will be sidelined.

So much needs to be done to protect our democracy, like statehood for DC and Puerto Rico, and I find it frustrating that these two are putting their own reelection chances ahead of what is important for the country. I realize that both represent more conservative states, but they also work for the country, and they are jeopardizing the future of this country. The 2020 election result was a reprieve for the country, but if a Republican is elected president in 2024, that reprieve is meaningless as any Republican administration will simply continue Trump’s policies of destroying the federal government and thus the country.

they will vote positively if the Democrats ignore the Parliamentarian on this specific issue. Really, on that above all, if you can't vote for a Voting Rights Act, then you really need to think about what you are doing as a Democrat.

as chair of the oversight committee matters as well. Unlike Richard Neal on the Ways and Means Committee who failed to act on a subpoena when he was able to.
