House to adjourn early over intelligence that groups may be planning another Capitol attack
Source: Washington Post
The House of Representatives will take its last votes of the week this evening, ending its workweek early after Capitol Police warned of reports that an unnamed militant group planned to breach the Capitol on Thursday.
The schedule change came after Capitol security officials warned of credible threats of violence by right-wing extremists who have fabricated the false claim that March 4 is the true Inauguration Day when former president Donald Trump will be sworn in for a second term.
House Sergeant-at-Arms Timothy P. Blodgett told lawmakers in a Wednesday memo that the Capitol Police have enhanced their security posture in response and noted that National Guard troops remained posted on the campus. The memo also encouraged members and staff to park in garages and use underground tunnels whenever possible similar to the guidance they gave ahead of the Jan. 6 riot.
Rather than risk being at the Capitol, the House moved up votes on a policing reform bill that was scheduled to be debated on Thursday. Instead it is expected to be passed Wednesday night along with debate and passage of a voting rights bill.

This probably has to do with that damn "March 4th" nonsense.

(9,309 posts)they are going to leave our Capital because of a threat? We have how many thousands of National Guard & beefed up police forces on the ready now so why are they panicking? This just seems wrong on so many fronts.

(169,583 posts)the Senate hasn't said anything about leaving - so far it's just the House.
In one respect, they seemed to have been more traumatized after that breach (where there ended up being a super-spreader event when they moved a number of them to "undisclosed" locations). Meanwhile it was easier to move the Senators out (there were less of them around), although the insurrectionists had a field day in the Senate chamber rifling through desks, hanging from the galley like monkeys, and sitting in the various chairs on the dais.

Per this article - they are moving it in closer (I think the complaint was that it was blocking pedestrians at its original location) -

This was just being reported locally (apparently House members were given a classified briefing) -
Earlier, they were starting to take it down

The current troops are expected to leave March 12 (although given what just happened today, I wonder if those plans might be changed). They currently have 5,000 NG troops there right now.

(318,985 posts)solid.
Why should they stay around to be attacked again? Maybe more lives lost?
Or should they all bring their guns to work & have a shoot out at the OK Capitol Building?

(169,583 posts)The Senate has a huge task on their plate and I don't expect them to recess in the middle of dealing with that COVID-relief bill, unless someone actually breaks into the chamber.

(15,423 posts)They need to meet these traitors with real bullets. I'm tired beyond words at these traitors whose whole platform has boiled down to white nationalism and 'owning the libs.' We need to get the hell rid of these imbeciles.
I mean, look at the job Biden is doing. Now, THAT is a real president. Trump had no plan, no vaccine, no nothing, and four weeks in, Biden has ramped up to the extent that EVERYONE will have their vaccine by May.
God, he's good!
And then we have these Proud Boogaloo Three Percenter Oath Keeper idiots and most of them probably can't even read.

(14 posts)They need to stay and do the people's work. The National Guard and DC Police should use real bullets. Some real work needs to be done to unearth those that have financed this insurrection, and provided transportation.

(25,974 posts)to see if they are toting their guns with the insurrectionists since they won't be in the House this time.
Good thing the House will not be in session. I would not trust that some House members wouldn't turn their guns on colleagues.
One possible security reason for the House members not being present is that it would free up Congressional security officers, Capitol police, and NG troops to deal with the mob.

(169,583 posts)and they mentioned a classified briefing that members got this afternoon. So although I never really expected a redux of January 6th, let alone anything even a fraction of that, I think (and I'm guessing) it may end up being more of the "called-in bomb threat" or "need to evacuate" types of things (particularly if it deals with their offices in other buildings), and that would make it disruptive to be in session.
At this point, I still believe that this is just the House. I haven't seen anything about the Senate doing this and for them, it would be easier to manage them if they did have to evacuate vs moving 435 (or however many were in-person in or near the chamber not operating remotely/voting-by-proxy).

(36,907 posts)so i just went to wgn's website--thinking i heard wrong & hoping they had it up. i couldn't even find a whisper about the capitol.
i would trust the dc station since they were even reporting live and showing the guys reinstalling barbed wire.
thanks for posting this.

(169,583 posts)was what was being reported pretty much everywhere the past couple days and they were starting to take down/move the razor fencing outside of the Capitol building today - literally until late this afternoon when the situation suddenly changed and they started putting it back (albeit, a little closer in so it wasn't blocking the pedestrian access and closing streets)!
So I am thinking that the intelligence monitors were probably getting some chatter from some small but well-organized group and decided to act on it out of an abundance of caution and probably dismissing the run-of-the-mill "all hat no cattle" hoodlums.
They do still have 5,000 NG down there until at least next week.
