Washington (CNN)The top State Department diplomatic security official in Afghanistan was removed from his role for declaring the "death of America" and making racist comments about Kamala Harris in a post on his Facebook page when President Donald Trump lost November's presidential election, according to four sources familiar with the matter.
"Sad day in American history. A fraudulent election that ushered in a senile idiot and a woman that claims to be black, but she's not," Nick Sabruno wrote in a post reviewed by CNN. "Your (sic) witnessing the death of America as we know it and just standby as all our freedoms are eroded."
After he learned about the post, the acting US ambassador in Afghanistan, Ross Wilson, declared that he had lost confidence in Sabruno and he was sent back to Washington, according to the sources familiar with the matter.
He still works at the State Department but is not currently assigned to a specific role or office, three sources familiar with the matter said.

(6,473 posts)How do these people not understand the rules that govern their lives? How do they not get what first amendment rights really cover? Actions have consequences. Did he really think his Facebook statement was a good thing for a government agent to do? It's like someone or something sucks the intelligence out of these people and then sends them out to screw things up.

(46,056 posts)Most federal employees enjoy a level of job protection not available to the typical non-government worker. In particular, in the case of "misconduct," the employee still must be given 30 days notice before he/she can be terminated. And where the termination is performance-related, there may be an additional due process-related delay before termination. What constitutes "misconduct" can be hazy at times -- criminal behavior clearly meets the test, but his actions here don't appear to be criminal, so it's arguable that he's entitled to the pre-termination due process given to employees being fired for performance related reasons.
