Creighton Athletic Director Bruce Rasmussen announced in a statement Thursday night that he suspended coach Greg McDermott, who compared his program to a plantation in a locker-room speech after a loss Saturday.
McDermott will not coach the Bluejays next game against Butler on Saturday. He also is not permitted to participate in any team activities starting Thursday night.
The suspension comes one day after McDermott coached Creighton during its 72-60 loss to Villanova on Wednesday, the teams first game since the 11-year coach's remarks were made public.
Assistant Alan Huss was named Creighton's interim head coach.

(9,319 posts)Not sure how long of a suspension is warranted. Up till NCAA tournament or including the tourney? I swear every year Creighton has it seriously rolling - an injury to our best player(3 times!), or a global pandemic or the coach comparing the basketball program to a plantation derails the whole damn thing.

(9,319 posts)Stay in the nest(for Bluejays) stay in the boat, dont abandon ship. Stay on the farm. Really unfortunate choice of words. Stay on the reservation would have not been perfect but better. Im still wondering where that came from.
