President Joe Biden’s nominee for the No. 3 position at the Justice Department, Vanita Gupta, apologized Tuesday for polarizing tweets and other statements that have driven Republican skepticism about her nomination.

“I regret the harsh rhetoric that I have used at times in the last several years,” said Gupta, a longtime civil rights lawyer who had a senior DOJ post under former President Barack Obama.
