GOP Texas lawmaker introduces bill to allow death penalty for women who have abortions

Source: The Hill

A Republican lawmaker in Texas has introduced a bill that would allow the death penalty for women who have abortions.

"Today, I filed HB 3326 to Abolish Abortion in Texas," Texas State Rep. Bryan Slaton (R) said on Twitter.

"The bill will end the discriminatory practice of terminating the life of innocent children, and will guarantee the equal protection of the laws to all Texans, no matter how small," he said

Under HB 3326, a person who has an abortion or performs an abortion could be charged with assault or homicide, which is punishable by death, the Texas Tribune reported.

These true believers are deadly serious - quite literally. I'd expect this bill to have traction. If you accept these folk's premise that abortion is murder, the potential for a capital sentence is quite predictable.

Now I'm worried that one of our geniuses in the Arkansas General Assembly will introduce a similar bill - which would likely pass. The bill just signed by the Arkansas Governor makes performing an abortion a 10-year offense. The difference between a 10-year offense and a capital offense is one only of degree.

As in their conspiracy to prevent voters casting ballots across the nation, I don’t believe those conspiring to limit women’s reproductive rights will succeed. We Democrats will expand the Supreme Court, if need be.

Still, as long as there is news coverage, operators like Slaton know how to “leverage” a situation.

Anyone who claims to appreciate life would never accept going to war because if we want to preserve life there is no other place where more lives are lost than in a war. They would have never supported lynching, or cops killing innocent people, they would never promote violence, etc.

I don't believe any of these people have true ideals and least of all principles. They act according to what may move their agenda forward, and I would bet that many republicans have had their mistresses abort to avoid bad press.

They pander to religious people but their actions are the opposite of what religion calls for true believers to do, their actions are exactly what Christ fought against, they are not true believers, they just know that most religious people a gullible and will believe almost anything that is supported by religious figures. When you accept you must believe fantasies because of faith, you open yourself to believe almost anything.

They are all hypocrites, and they will change their tune to wherever they wind blows. I don't believe any of them. The only thing I believe is true in their character is racism and greed, all negative character attributes, but they have none that religion would be proud of.

Just think of what this guy is proposing...Kill a woman for aborting a child...where is the "all life is precious", why not maybe come up with an education program for someone who aborts a child? No, no...KILL HER! How much hypocrisy is in that bill...

The anti-choice base is fervently opposed to abortion as a result of their religious convictions - convictions they feel obliged to force on the rest of us.

Their religious fervor is what makes them so completely unwilling to discuss the issue. It is also what would make many of them willing to execute women to stop abortions. As a matter of religious conviction, they are convinced that abortion is murder and they support the execution of murderers.

The fact that we disagree with them does not change the basis for their position. We must understand these people to oppose them.

The supposed pro-lifers cared naught when the state of Texas (republican gov, republican Prez) deliberately killed living baby Sun Hudson against the mother's wishes because he was an inconvenience to the state.

A fetus is not innocent as it lacks the capacity. If a pregnancy kills a woman, the fetus isn't guilty.

And rights accrue AT BIRTH.

This bastard is longing for some more obscene and depraved "science" experiments in Texas like the macabre tragedy of Marlise Muñoz, whose family was forced to have her dead body placed on "life support" for TWO MONTHS.

Doctors informed Munoz and Marlise's parents, Lynne and Ernest Machado, that the hospital wasn't going to disconnect Marlise from the ventilator. Texas law prohibited it because she was pregnant.

The Texas Advance Directives Act states, "A doctor may not withdraw or withhold life-sustaining treatment from a pregnant patient."

Munoz and his wife's parents told the hospital that Marlise, herself a veteran paramedic, had made it clear to everyone she didn't want to be kept alive by machines under any circumstances. The doctors and the hospital explained that it didn't matter what Marlise or her husband or anyone else wanted — their hands were tied. She would stay on the ventilator until her 14-week-old fetus was delivered or died.

Even Amy Covid Barrett would have problems with this one.

I think Roe will be overturned, putting us back into a country of slave states and free states. It will work OK for women who can afford to travel until the slave states start trying to punish women who go out of state for legal abortion and ER docs start to complain about the butchery happening via illegal abortion.

NM awaits. We finally got the old antiabortion law off the books.

The Conservative Crusade For Christian Sharia Law

The question isn’t: Will conservatives push to enact laws based on the Bible? We are way beyond that. The real questions are: 1. How many more of these laws do they want to impose? And, 2. What will our nation look like if their crusade is successful to bring America’s laws into agreement with “God’s law”?

To some on the right, America is a “Christian nation”—like Saudi Arabia is a Muslim nation—meaning that our nation’s laws should be based on their religious text. These forces aren’t moved by Thomas Jefferson’s famous letter in which he spoke of the need to create, "a wall of separation between church and state.” Nor will they be swayed by citing Ronald Reagan’s words, "Church and state are, and must remain, separate.”

And in the past few years, we have seen pro-life Christian groups successfully lobby State legislatures to restrict access to abortions. They have also raised religious, not public policy, objections to the government funding birth control.

But here’s the alarming thing: These views are no longer the fringe of American politics. They are increasingly become mainstream conservative fare.
