UPDATED - BREAKING: Jerry Nadler Says Governor Andrew Cuomo Must Resign
Source: Mediaite
By Aidan McLaughlin Mar 12th
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) called for New York Governor Andrew Cuomos resignation over allegations of sexual harassment on Friday.
The bravery individuals have shown in coming forward to share their experiences with Governor Cuomo is inspiring, and I stand with them in support, Nadler said in a statement posted to Twitter. The repeated accusations against the Governor, and the manner in which he has responded to them, have made it impossible for him to continue to govern at this point.
Governor Cuomo is guaranteed due process under law, he continued. Although his accusers are credible and the charges against him are serious indeed, the investigations under way by New York State Attorney General Letitia James and the Albany police must be permitted to run their course before we reach judgment about his liability for any alleged criminal act. But there is a difference between formal investigations that may end in criminal charges and a question of confidence in our political leadership. The question before us is squarely a political judgment.
Governor Cuomo has lost the confidence of the people of New York. Governor Cuomo must resign.

UPDATE:
JUST IN: Top House Democrats Join Chairman Nadler in Demanding Cuomo Resign
By Colby HallMar 12th, 2021, 10:49 am
-snip-
Joint Statement from Reps. Ocasio-Cortez, Bowman on New York State Leadership
This week, the second sexual assault allegation and the sixth harassment allegation was leveled against Governor Cuomo. The fact that this latest report was so recent is alarming. and it raises concerns about the present safety and well-being of the administrations staff. These allegations have all been consistent and highly-detailed. and there are also credible media reports substantiating their accounts.
Unfortunately, the Governor is not only facing the accusation that he engaged in a pattern of sexual harassment and assault. There is also the extensive report from the Attorney General that found the Cuomo administration hid data on COVID-19 nursing home deaths from both the public and the state legislature.
As members of the New York delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives. we believe these women, we believe the reporting. we believe the Attorney General, and we believe the fifty-five members of the New York State legislature, including the State Senate Majority Leader, who have concluded that Governor Cuomo can no longer effectively lead in the face of so many challenges.

What? You want Cuomo replaced by a Trump-friendly so he can pardon Trump in the state of NY?

(693 posts)Of explaining why no one should be worried about Trump being pardoned if Cuomo resigns...
The Governor has not been accused of criminal sexual behavior and until he is he should stay in office.

(67,782 posts)....would be our nominee next year? If we (as a Democrat and New York ex-pat) don't have a strong candidate we run the risk of losing the Governorship.
Even though on the surface New York is a blue state, it can very easily be turned around by the republicans.

(26,366 posts)Why it matters: Pressure for Cuomo to resign is now coming from Congress. 11 of the 19 House Democrats from the New York delegation have now called for his resignation, with the 10 on Friday joining Rep. Kathleen Rice, who called for the governor to step down on March after a third accuser came forward.
The list includes:
House Judiciary chair Jerry Nadler
House Oversight chair Carolyn Maloney
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
Rep. Jamal Bowman
Rep. Mondaire Jones
Rep. Grace Meng
Rep. Yvette Clark
Rep. Adriano Espaillat
Rep. Nydia Velasquez
Rep. Anthony Delgado

(67,782 posts)....positioning and a subtle appeal to the State Legislature who will be doing the redistricting? Cuomo unfortunately has been boorish in all aspects of his Governorship, and he's pissed off a lot of Democrats, which could possibly be behind some of this.
I wish everyone would back off and let AG James complete her investigation. Despite his aggressive style, he's done a very good job in office. He didn't get elected three times for nothing.

And even were it the legislature... what connection would there be to the governor of the state?
He didn't get elected three times for nothing.
He's now polling in the 30s. Obviously, many who voted for him have changed their minds.

What a bunch of hypocrites. my goodness, when does it end?
It is very suspicious that all these women have come up, after many years, once Cuomo has reached high prominence for his job during the pandemic...If he did do the things they claim he did then he should apologize, but why would these women come out now? Why didn't they complain immediately? No, do not resign, too late for that if in fact it did happen.

Nadler certainly called on Trump to resign more than once... including voting to impeach multiple times and driving the impeachment process.

(10,125 posts)No one is saying the womens claims arent true, but Cuomo (anyone for that matter) deserves a full investigation to determine the facts. Then if they support the womens claims, its time for Cuomo to step down. Im really disturbed that so many Democrats have jumped on the bandwagon with no investigation.
Edited to add: If this is what the Me Too movement has become, then even as a woman I cant support it. Everyone accused of such actions deserves a chance to prove his or her innocence. Whatever happened to the whole notion f innocent until proven guilty?

Let the investigation complete. Until then, Cuomo is innocent until proven guilty.

(36,187 posts)right wing kompomat playbook and doubt machine that's been spread by the Putin's IRA through their trolls in 2015 against Clinton and now they run it against a favorite NY governor, with no care to convey facts or truth to Democratic voters in either case.
It's a purging playbook that only hurts Democrats' power and credibility in governance.
The press is complicit in seeking opportunities to drag down the Democratic Party every chance it gets.
What is wrong with Nadler, and how can he possibly benefit from joining a chorus of stalking horses for Republican gains in NY.
Investigate every single person who calls for Cuomo's resignation, and you will see flawed Democrats who've made bad decisions and who could be purged from the party, as well. What they do in case building against a strong leader is how we eat our own and gut our party down to a manageably mediocre opponent that Republican jackals can run against.
People need to complain to congressional Democrats to keep their mouths shut, literally speak up in support of Democrats and their party, and fight their cheap urges to play by the purging playbook that was written by their domestic and foreign opponents.
The reveal is that they haven't learned from the Clinton purge.

(36,187 posts)Nothing that comes out of press blaring and James' investigation will prove harm to New Yorkers. They know that he has done far more good for every New Yorker than harm, and that he faces defamation which eludes other governors who, in the first pandemic of our lifetimes, have made similar and even more mistakes than he.

IMO, something doesn't smell right. They may be taking money from Republicans who want Cuomo out to install a Republican gov. who is willing to pardon T****.. I hope they thoroughly investigate each of these women's claims.

(26,366 posts)Confronting and overcoming the Covid crisis requires sure and steady leadership. We commend the brave actions of the individuals who have come forward with serious allegations of abuse and misconduct. Due to the multiple, credible sexual harassment and misconduct allegations, it is clear that Governor Cuomo has lost the confidence of his governing partners and the people of New York. Governor Cuomo should resign, the senators said in their statement.
