Schumer, Gillibrand call on Cuomo to resign
Source: The Hill
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) late Friday called on New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) to resign amid growing sexual harassment allegations against him.
In a joint statement, the two senators, who had come under pressure themselves to call on Cuomo to resign after other state officials and House lawmakers from New York had done so, said it would be difficult for him to continue to govern given the controversies.
Confronting and overcoming the Covid crisis requires sure and steady leadership," the two senators said.
"We commend the brave actions of the individuals who have come forward with serious allegations of abuse and misconduct. Due to the multiple, credible sexual harassment and misconduct allegations, it is clear that Governor Cuomo has lost the confidence of his governing partners and the people of New York. Governor Cuomo should resign.

(67,782 posts)We're really going to judge a governor's aide by whether she can remember aircraft types? Or whether it was one of the many times Cuomo borrowed private jets rather than a "taxpayer-funded" one?
George II
(67,782 posts)As an elected official, Cuomo couldn't "borrow" a jet and, even if he did, a borrowed aircraft isn't paid for by taxpayer dollars.

I would certainly know the difference... but that doesn't mean that we should assume that everyone does.
If there was just one accuser, this spin might be reasonable... but we're well past that at this point. Whether she remembers what was on the lunch menu that day or not is really irrelevant.

(26,732 posts)The governor harasses her and she's supposed to document the tail number in case she has to prove it years later? She almost certainly flew with her boss multiple times on a number of aircraft.
Your spin sounds remarkably like Kavanaugh's defenders pointing out that the accusations can't be true because she didn't remember the address where the party took place or whether she walked home or got a ride.

(67,782 posts)....Kavanaugh's defenders. It's relatively current, not 20+ years ago. And Kavanaugh's accuser testified publicly, not on twitter or in the press, and Blasey-Ford wasn't running for office.
Let's wait for the results of the investigation.

(6,974 posts)But Dems really have to stop falling down on their swords all of the time. At least WAIT for thorough investigation of Cuomo. Dems seem to want to shove people out of the way without them having due process.
You don't see the GQP telling their members to leave the Congress/Senate, and some of those fuckers led the attack on the Capitol, with their un-American speech. In fact, some of those secessionists are doubling down on their rhetoric, and fat45 is STILL referring to himself as the president which will KEEP people riled up and wanting to possibly cause some type of hideous, violent attack somewhere, because they still think that fat45 is the president. You see Boebert and that other gun-toting ass MTG are still talking conspiracy theories and inciting crazies on the right.
STILL!

(6,974 posts)But shouldn't there be investigations FIRST?
Dems still eating their OWN after tRump tried to steal the election, after his fat ass told those folks to go storm the Capitol, after the GQP tried to destroy this country, and that racist, secessionist, shit ass Green is STILL in the House along with lying, racist, secessionist, shit-ass Boebert 🙄
Hell MOST of the GQP are no good, worthless, racist and totally un-American, but you're telling Cuomo to go?
When purity goes TOOOO far. Yep Dems, "Just go, resign, slit your wrists," even without an investigation. Look at the GQP, even AFTER another tape surfaced where fat45 tried to threaten someone else to GIVE him votes? Afterseeing DQP Gov. Ron Deathsentence do some horrid things like selling vaccines to rich friends, after he murdered folks with covid-19, and look at that sucker Abbot, flinging open Texas so people can become re-infected. Not much from Dems on their behavior. No, Dems are becoming the party of biting itself in the asses. SMDH.

The calls came in a coordinated barrage of statements released in the morning from more than a dozen Democratic House members, including Representatives Jerrold Nadler and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The sentiment was clear: Mr. Cuomo had lost the capacity to govern and must leave office.

Eliot resigned. Roger gallStone immediately took credit. Wouldn't
be surprised for a replay. Meanwhile, the same NYS repubs who
supported the Dump's two exonerations are now CALLING FOR
CUOMO's impeachment. Shame on Dems who are entering the

I've said nothing myself about the victims, because I'm a victim of sexual harassment, from two priests while a Junior AND Senior in High School, and of course the archdiocese didn't believe me either when my late Mom/Father lodged a protest against these two priests in consecutive years, who were said to have been "transferred" from California to two other Archdiocese in other states. This was the late 1970's, and I feel sorry for those that they more than likely went on to sexually harass.
However, shouldn't Cuomo have the right of the investigations he called for? Shouldn't there be due process? We know Franken didn't get that, he was told to just "GO!." But what I am questioning is how Dems always have to be so pure. Not to say that we shouldn't reach for being the BEST persons that we should be. ANYBODY should, in or out of politics. But the GQP is trying to stop minorities, the old, disenfranchised, Millennials, Gen X'ers and Z'ers & other persons from voting. They're JIM CROWING voting again. What are Dems doing/saying about that?
I run hot and cold with Bill Maher, but I too am beginning to question "Cancel culture," which really only hurts those on the liberal side of the spectrum.

(26,732 posts)The state legislature can impeach based on whatever standard they choose. I don't think it even includes the "high crimes and misdemeanors" language of the US Constitution.
Many of the senior Democrats in the state legislature have already called on him to resign without such an investigation being completed. Little reason to doubt that many republicans would vote with them.

Just because someone wants to Railroad Cuomo doesnt mean he isnt guilty of anything.
Seems just as bad as thinking Cuomo could jump into the past election for President, as so many called for back when he was a superstar.
I would love to have kept a list of those who built Cuomo up a few months back and compare it to the list of railroaders now.

If my dream job ended due to sexual harassment, I would be curled up in a ball and devastated. But Lindsey Boylan is starting a PAC against Schumer and Gullibrand because they have been silent?? Something smells and now calls into question her credibility and possibly the other women.
