The House Oversight Committee is demanding that the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) release a contract with a private company for a new delivery vehicle fleet that is reportedly worth up to $6 billion.
Oversight and Committee Chairwoman Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) sent a letter to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy on Friday voicing several concerns about potential interference and asking for documents relating to a contract with Oshkosh Defense.
The USPS is contracted to purchase up to 165,000 new fuel efficient or electric postal vehicles.
USPS announced the deal with the Wisconsin-based company in late February, under which it paid a $482 million initial investment. The Postal Service said in a statement that the contract was the first part of a multi-billion dollar, 10-year effort to replace its delivery fleet.

(9,981 posts)I did a quick search but found the only electric car manufacturer mentioned for Wisconsin is Foxconn, a Taiwanese company. Why wouldnt this contract be given to a US company? Is DeJoy trying to support the idiot Ron Johnson since he is up for reelection next year? This contract definitely needs to see daylight.

(729 posts)...a very large publicly traded company. Most famous for military vehicles like the MRAP. They also make Jerr-Dan automotive wreckers and roll-backs, and semi truck rescue wreckers; JLG industrial forklifts and scissor lifts; Pierce fire and ladder trucks; McNeilus and London brands of garbage and cement trucks; plus other service and industrial vehicles.

(7,016 posts)have to go to court to get a look at a GOVERNMENT contract of which they have oversight. All government contracts should sent to the committee automatically and archived for review if need be.

(28,120 posts)From DeJoy entry on Wiki:
On May 6, 2020, the USPS Board of Governors, all selected by Trump and confirmed by the Senate, announced DeJoy's appointment as Postmaster General and CEO, despite concerns about conflicts of interest.
That day, the National Association of Letter Carriers president Frederic Rolando congratulated him on his appointment but warned of politicization of the USPS, writing: "Keeping politics out of the Postal Service and maintaining its independence is central to its success." DeJoy did not go through the normal vetting process for Postmaster General; two separate search firms were used by the USPS board, and neither firm mentioned DeJoy in their list of candidates.[25]
And, if I'm not mistaken, Biden can only removed members of that Board of Governors in a certain sequence!

Adding from Mother Jones:
Since the USPS is an independent agency under the executive branch, Biden cant directly fire DeJoy, who has no fixed term. That can only be done by the Postal Service Board of Governors. Trump named all six members of the nine-member board, which has a 42 GOP majority. But if Biden appoints three new governors, who must be confirmed by the Senate, to existing vacancies that would give Democrats a 54 majority that could oust DeJoy and roll back his changes to the agency.
