Meghan McCain Blames Kamala Harris for Republicans' Vaccine Hesitancy

The Views Meghan McCain on Tuesday cast blame on Kamala Harris for how a large share of Republicans express hesitancy about getting a coronavirus vaccine, citing remarks made by the vice president made last fall to claim both sides are equally responsible for this.
Concern has grown in recent weeks as polls show that Republicans, and specifically supporters of former President Donald Trump, are increasingly resistant to receiving a vaccination. In a recent NPR/Marist survey, for instance, 49 percent of Republican men said they wont choose to get a shot if its made available to them.
Public-health experts, meanwhile, have tried to appeal to the ex-president to publicly express support for the vaccines in the hopes that could reverse these trends among Republicans. (Trump did not participate in a pro-vaccine ad campaign featuring other living ex-presidents.) At the same time, however, Fox News and other right-wing media outlets have progressively peddled vaccine skepticism as the Biden administration ramps up vaccinations.
Addressing this growing issue on Tuesdays broadcast of The View, McCain first warned viewers that she may trigger them with her belief that even more Republicans are skeptical of vaccines than what the polls are showing. The conservative host, though, wanted the audience to know that she herself was happy to get the vaccine live on the air as a form of advocacy.

(130,538 posts)who would probably be embarrassed over her dumb comments. I wasn't a particular fan of John McCain, but except for that one episode where he chose Sarah Palin as his running mate, he wasn't an idiot like his spawn. Maybe Meghan is trying to emulate Palin. If so, she's getting close to succeeding.

(12,598 posts)and recommended by his campaign manager, Steve Schmidt. Ultimately McCain was responsible, but had little reason to suspect she was an absolute dingbat.
There is that scene in Game Change, the look of growing horror on Schmidt's face, after he asked Palin about the 'Special Relationship' with the UK. Palin replies she would love to work with Queen.
Even Rick Perry would have done better than that.

So Dems don't trust Trump, but trust the experts.
The GQP, on the other hand, does not trust Biden OR the experts.
McCain being an exception.
More bullshit we have to wade thru and counter.

(80,814 posts)..........What appears to be missing from McCains seemingly strawman argument is that Harris specifically stated at the time that while she would not take Trump at his word on the efficacy and safety of any vaccine approved prior to the election, she would trust what scientists and health officials said about it.
And despite conservatives and right-wing pundits accusing Biden and Harris of trafficking in anti-vaccine rhetoric at the time, both the vice-president and president publicly received immunizations shortly after they were approved by the FDA. Trump, meanwhile, received his vaccine in secret, something that was only reported weeks later.

(26,257 posts)the blatant misinformation put out by the pino djt on covid 19, etc., she blames Kamala and/or the democrats, kind of pathetic considering that the Biden admin. just got in towards the tail end of Jan. 2021. I barely could handle her before, and now, with the way she's been opening her stupid mouth w/o thinking about really what she is saying (certainly not on a factual basis), I've lost ALL respect for her. 100%.
Next thing she's going to moan about is that when one fixes a turkey, that it's doesn't need to be cooked in an oven at all or some other similarly dumb thing.

(13,292 posts)That's why the Repugs are blowing off the vaccine. If he had only been honest with them and taken his shot in public, and joined the PSA with the other former presidents, the results would be different.
Instead, McCain falls back on the Republican saw, "It's all the black person's fault." She had to go back to last year to find a Harris quote she could distort. The only acceptable answer for a Repug is that the coronavirus was created by the Chinese and spread through the U.S. because the Democrats ignored T*****'s wise leadership.
Trump is waiting for Biden to ask (which in his warped mind means "beg"
for his assistance, which he will grant only if a list of conditions are met, the first of which Biden travel to Mar-A-Lago to make his plea. Alternatively, T***** wants to address both houses of Congress and the nation to tell them what a great president he is (since he won the election).

It means shorter lines for the rest of us who want vaccines. There will be plenty for them to get it if they come around eventually.

(12,618 posts)I know I'm supposed to "respect" her father John McCain because he was an "honorable Republican." LOL. There's a reason why I didn't join in the remembrance ceremonies on DU when her father died. Her father was a scumbag, and so is his daughter. He spent his whole life building up the evil that is the modern Republican Party, and was an avid cheerleader for its imperialist war in Iraq. But I was supposed to respect him and mourn him as a great American when he passed? Um, no. All he ever did was put a fake, so-called respectable face on the evil that the GOP has become. But instead of making it less evil, he just made it more difficult for millions of Americans to be able to come out and say that it is evil. "But what about John McCain? He's a good guy. Served his country, right? How can you call the Republicans evil when he's a Republican?" That's all I would ever hear from idiots too stupid to know the difference when I talked about how evil the Republicans had become. McCain didn't make them less evil. He made it more difficult to call their evil out by pretending to be respectable.
His daughter is no different.

(841 posts)Now she "was 'happy to get the vaccine' live on air as a form of advocacy." JFC! What an utterly transparent ploy to get the vaccine like her getting the shot would convince anybody to do so. If she got her vaccination, she probably wouldn't mention the vaccine again. After all, she is a republican and for them "It's I got mine, screw you."

Meghan McCain Wants Fauci Replaced With Someone Who Understands Science
The host also had trouble squaring the fact that she is a celebrity television host with how little information she is receiving.
The fact that I Meghan McCain, co-host of The View, I dont know when or how I will be able to get a vaccine because the rollout for my age range and my health is so nebulous, I have no idea when and how I can get it. I want to get it, McCain said.
McCain pivoted back to Fauci saying he should be removed because, We need to have more people giving more opinions.
So, Im over Dr. Fauci, she said. I think we need to have more people giving more opinions. And I honestly, quite frankly, I think the Biden administration should remove him and put someone else in his place that maybe does understand science or can talk to other countries about how we can be more like these places that are doing this successfully.
