Moderna Gives 1st Vaccine Shots To Young Kids As Part Of COVID-19 Study

Moderna is testing its COVID-19 vaccine in young children; its vaccine is currently authorized for people ages 18 and up. Here, third-grade children attend school this month in Berlin, as classes were allowed to meet in person at 50% capacity.

Children have now received their first doses of Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine, as the company studies the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine for kids ages 6 months to less than 12 years old.

In the study, researchers will give two injections 28 days apart of either the Moderna vaccine or a saline placebo to children. Kids who get the vaccine will receive one of three possible doses, from 25 micrograms up to 100 micrograms — the same dose that received an emergency authorization for use in adults from the Food and Drug Administration.

Moderna plans to enroll roughly 6,750 children in the U.S. and Canada for the study, which is taking place at sites in at least eight states, from Arizona and California to South Carolina and Texas.

j & J is now doing their children’s study in South America. Pay some poor family money for offering up their babies. I read Pfizer was having a problem getting babies signed up in USA and Canada.

Please re-read it. I asked who would enroll their child in that type of trial, and stated that I would not.

I didn’t say that I don’t think kids get COVID or anything more than what is in my post.

The implication is something is wrong with them. You've implied it in all responses in this thread that no good parent would do that.

NYT article said babies and kids will have worse side effects than adults. And they want to try 3 different doses of vaccine on 2 yr olds and babies. An article recently came out saying women had more side effects than men - and maybe they needed a smaller dose but ...the adult dose is one of the doses they plan to try on 6 month babies. Around 250 kids have died from Covid - that’s very few deaths for the millions of kids who have gotten Covid.

After the test period, I was told I had the vaccine, not the placebo. So I didn't have to get another shot.

The vaccine offered hope for frightened parents..

And 40,000 got polio. Some lab accidentally did not kill the live virus. It was said to be one of the worst biological disasters in America. The CDC said for 8 yrs after that, 10 to 30% of the polio vaccine was contaminated with a possibility carcinogenic monkey virus. It took years for them to get a safe polio vaccine.

Of that age? Seems like its 16-17 up then this young trial.

My daughter with a 13 & 15 yr old boys would love them vaccinated since they are back in school in Texas. Her area is still making all kids wear masks but she is still concerned. Kids were getting way behind at home even with her trying to help after her long days, she is tax accountant. So she sent them back.
