Rep. Ruben Gallego pushes for the VA to strip benefits from service members, veterans who stormed Capitol
insider@insider.com (John L. Dorman) 4 hrs ago

Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego of Arizona, a Marine Corps veteran, last week called on Veterans Affairs Secretary Denis McDonough to withdraw benefits from active-duty service members, veterans, or military retirees who participated in the deadly January 6 Capitol riot.

"The behavior of these individuals is not representative of the large population of American veterans, the vast majority of whom served honorably and are appalled by the thought of insurrection in the country they served," he wrote in a letter. "Yet, many of the veterans and service members who attacked their own government actively and enthusiastically enjoy benefits not available to their fellow citizens."

Such benefits include access to disability compensation, more affordable healthcare options, and vocational opportunities.

Gallego added: "This situation is unjust. Any retiree or service member who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 forfeited their moral entitlement to the support of the people of the United States."

I totally agree with the sentiment, but new laws aren’t the only solution.

I’m not a veteran, but isn’t there some provision veterans can still be court martialed for seditious behavior? That would strip them of their benefits and their veteran status.

Which seems right, taking away the admiration from others for being a veteran is the first step—dishonor them.

of all benefits, that taxpayers are paying for , if they are inactive, recall them to active, court-martial them and then trip them all benefits and then throw the whole bunch in jail, but first start with Mike Flynn and possibly his brother, every last one of them ........

they earned those benefits. I'd look for another way to hit back, honestly.

In most cases, that's a trial and a big fine, probably probation and if it's a felony, no access to guns and a prison term if they ever try to own a gun again.

In the worst cases, from B&E to attacking the police, prison. Their bennies will go to their families.

The instigators and the violent jackasses need to pay a stiff penalty. The hangers-on, not so much.

Oh, and that Q crap has got to be tracked down, exposed, prosecuted, and the plug pulled.

the service member and the US government entered into. The terms are clearly spelled out. Neither party can change those terms just because they feel like it. I get the sentiment but I don’t see how this is legal.

That said, I'm not a lawyer and I can't say with certainty that there isn't any clause in that original contract that allows for the stripping of benefits.

and if the veteran serves over 60 days. Also, as has been mentioned on other posts the option for some to recall for the purpose of court martialing.

To strip them of health care.. only to provide them with health care.

But Id like to see all of these known to have attempted the violent overthrow of our government clearly and definitively prohibited from owning firearms.
