Schumer asks Biden to nominate first-ever Black Manhattan U.S. attorney

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has asked President Biden to nominate federal prosecutor Damian Williams to serve as the next Manhattan U.S. attorney a post hed become the first Black man to hold if confirmed by Congress, the Daily News has learned.
The New York senator planned to publicly announce his recommendation of Williams on Tuesday afternoon, a source familiar with the matter said.
Bidens likely to act on Schumers recommendation, the source said, with the New York Democrats nod weighing heavily in that he is the states most senior congressional lawmaker and the Senates top-ranking member.
The White House did not immediately return a request for comment.
